Any fans of the Firefly/Serenity here?
Every time I rewatch either I think of EVE. Im no sci-fi expert but the world from the series/movie (despite them being kind of a space western)is imo the closest to EVE that Ive ever seen. A captain and his crew earning money, not necesarily legaly, to keep flying. No fancy space battles just scavenging and hauling (even when cows are your cargo) :)
ehh the memories...

I wouldn't kick Summer Glau out of my pod.

In the very first Battlestar Galactica episode, when Laura Roslin is in the doctor's office, you can see Senerity fly by in the background.
Check it out. I'm not kidding.

Firefly is best and that there is only one season is proof that we are living in hell. On the other hand, the fact that there is a season might be proof that this is heaven ?

Originally by: Louis deGuerre Firefly is best and that there is only one season is proof that fox executives should be put against the wall and 'dealt with'
tv execs have a continual habit of doing masses of market research and then very very carefully noting all that information, ignoring it and then whining about the consequences.
as another example of such stupidity,
terminator: the sarah connor chronicles.
target audience: 16-35 year old (approximate)
specific target profile: students, IT professionals, sci-fi fans.
target audience habits: rise late, geek, play games, drink excessively.
notable target audience traits: drinking/socialising/NOT WATCHING TELLY from 1700 to 0400 friday-saturday
obviously the best time to stick a program on is when the majority of your target audience are liable to watch it.
ie;
normal sensible persons assessment: sunday... early evening....
tv persons assessment: friday... just as the bars are filling up with attractive young ladies (or indeed men for those so inclined)
Obviously doing it the tv execs way would mean massive viewer ratings, and none of the target audience would be of the type to simply download the bloody program if it didnt suit ther veiwing time... thats just crazy talk.
Argghhhh, I hate stupid people.
correction to last... i hate people.

It's actually probably a good thing the series was so short. I know, I know ... I loved it too. Even liked the movie and comics (though the RPG was kinda nonsense, just my opinion).
But part of Firefly's perfection may be it's brevity. We all want great things to last, but they don't. How many good series' have you watched, only to have them ruined by writer or producer decisions that you may not agree with, in a later season?
I kinda figure that if Firefly had went one, two, three more seasons, it would have still been good. But there's so much room for error. It may have been better that the producers canned it after one, instead of ruining it completely.

I loved Firefly. Seeing the series play out its long story arcs would have been great. Probably the best written and acted sci-fi TV series I've ever seen. |

Well yeah but that is only half true imo. I just hate when they cancel shows that have a large fanbase without explaining all plots. Id honestly rather have a crappy season 2 explaining some of the stuff, but hey at least Josh Whedon got green light to direct Serenity which kind of wraps most of plots up.

Im a fan of everything that has Summer Glau included, that means TSCC too. Its shame to see it go. It has had its better and worse episodes but the last 4-5 were pure awesome and the finale really kicked butts. Theres still this tiny -> . <- chance there will be s3 but all I really want is more Summer :)

Anyone here read? Books?
If I haven't lost you yet, then check out a series of books called The Gap Cycle by Stephen R. Donaldson. Then you'll understand the universe of EVE.
But yes, EVE = Babylon 5.
Firefly/Serenity = Firefly MMO.

uh wtf is a book? Is that like a record player old people speak of some times? About the ancient 70's in which it was also a ritual to dance and snort white substances up your nose to hear the gods speak?

Oh also why does everyone have a hard &* for summer? She's not that great looking.

We had this discussion in a chat channel about a week ago. Although I was a big fan of Firefly/Serenity (and all things Whedon, for that matter) I pointed out then the only problem is that the Firefly class ship wouldn't last 5 seconds in EVE. Think about it: other than in the movie, it never had any weapon hardpoints - and even then they only had one small projectile mount.
Basically, the Firefly class ship would be like an unarmed frigate in EVE.
