So. In lieu of the number of crap threads on this forum I have decided to start a new quality thread.
I think of all the one's I've participated in...
Set your way back ometer to about 5 months ago when my corp was still blue with the united. We had this little scam going where we both camped the same pipe. We heard from them that they'd just ransomed a CNR for X amount (I don't recall). He was Russian. So we catch him on our end. Traffic is light so I spark up a convo and scan him. He has a decent faction shield booster and some nice mods. He says he has no money left so I tell him to eject and I'll send him 300 mil for his troubles (it's more than he'll get from insurance c/d). So I spend 20 minutes convincing him I'm not some bougesious capitalist pigdog etc etc and finally he ejects. As much as I'd love to say it, given the back and forth and the time he'd invested, despite being a ruskie (the most hated of foes) I felt compelled to send him the money and thus true tales of win are born.
So C&P tell me about your epic ransoms.

All I ever get is smack when I try to ransom. Ironically smacktalking PvEers who don't pay ransom are the reason I have to PvE to pay for my ships.

Old corp I used to hang around did gladiator ransoms.
Tackle someone at a gatecamp, warp him to a ss. Keep him there.
Wait for next target, tackle him and warp him to same ss. Make them fight to death. Winner gets to keep their ship.

Every single time I see a hulk on scans I immediatly start thinking, "O good, another 100 mill, I can go buy another BS". Of course, as soon as I finally catch the hulk pilot and get him convoed, the first thing out of his mouth is, "**** YOU, I'm not giving you anything!".

well i guess this should go to your other posting but...nvm. no you are not the only one. but KM got a value they dont deserve anyway in my opinion. zomfgololiBBQedThisandthat! yeah wow....who cares? nothing against a nice written batllereport, i like them and they are entertaining, dosent matter how big or small the fight was. nice thing to read. but this e-p*** thing... you know what i mean. it gained a importance far beyond good and evil. and additional to that, earning your living as a pirate is not more as easy as it used to be...at least thats the feeling i get. moste carebears prefer to get blown up and pay a merc corp after that to wardec you (actually the mercs are the only guys that get something out of the complete c&p thing in eve atm, but thats worth a own posting already). the guys you catch that are settled between pirates and griefers will call on their buddys to pop you or just as well decide to get blown up to hunt you down after that. well, at least they are bringing up the fight by their own and dont let others fight after. you want to stop the trolling? boost piracy. and anyway the trolling in here....sure sometimes its annoying. but 99% of the time its meant funny and it dosent aim directly on the player like it dose in CAOD. well, at least not so personal liek they do over there hehe.
c/d?

We could have a serious discussion about why people don't normally pay ransoms
I think it is because no one honours them any more, most noobs will pay out but very few older players will not, they don't seem to trust the pirate corps :(

Gladiator ransoms is the BEST idea I've ever heard. Seriously.
As for not paying ransoms, I never do because I would rather take the chance that the opposing pilot might **** up and give me a chance to turn the tables. I've only been ransomed I think a total of 2 times on other accounts though, both times I said I don't pay ransoms and just took the loss. Never flying what you can't afford to lose/replace helps that aspect too.
As for ransoming, I have never ransomed because I get the adrenaline rush and just go straight for the kill, forgetting to ask for ransom till after.
Sorry to help the derail of your thread Lark. ------------------------------ ------------------------------

While that is an emotionally satisfying activity to contemplate and possibly to participate in, I wonder how you were able to cause or compel another player to warp to anywhere.
Did you motivate them with the threat of destruction to join your fleet or gang? The mechanics of this are of great interest to me because I wish to emulate this behavior.
In a mano a mano fight do you believe that you could best Slarti?

Gang warp was my initial assumption but there are factors that could allow the escape of your prey.
After you invite your prey into your fleet and remove the point, what prevents them from quickly interrupting the warp in order to flee? Is it requisite to warp your prey to a ship that is capable of nearly instantly locking in order to point them again? At any point is it necessary or desirable to scan their ship to ascertain their fittings so that they may be deliberately (evenly or unevenly) matched against an opponent?

Invite them to fleet, make them allign to your ss which is pointing opposite direction to all warpouts. Voila.

some of the corps I used to fly w/ had some awesome ransom schemes (Nubs. RiLLaCorp).
among them:
[1] the ever popular karaoke "sing for your ship" night.
[2] and the one time the ransomee was forced to fly alongside the gang during a roam announcing our arrival in local as the bulk of the fleet jumped in. he REALLY got into his role. he typed things like:
"Behold! Nubs. Fear their awesome power." "Make way for Nubs.! The stars tremble at their approach." "In the beginning there was a corp with a manly group of players and an even manlier CEO, and the people did fear upon the arrival of the corp, and didst dock and hide and wait for long ages before undocking, and it was good."
At first I thought he was obviously spying for some corp trying to set a trap (why else go along with it) but after a bit it became apparent he was having fun at it.

Up near the Yulai ice belts my reputation was such that I could bring ice mining to a standstill in that area if I chose to.
As a result, all I would have to do is simply appear in the system and I would typically recieve 30 mil from the various folks mining, (ice ore from the cash farmers - they weren't allowed to transfer money).
Ahh those were the days...
