Hello, I'm new to EVE online. I began installing EVE today and everything ran smoothly until I tried to enter the game and came across an error message saying that my CCP exe file has stopped working. I uninstalled and reinstalled EVE several times and still have the exact same problem. Can someone please help?

Sounds like you have a corrupt cache. The cache is not located in the same folder as Eve so a fresh install will just result in the same error. Delete the folders located at "%USERPROFILE%\Local Settings\Application Data\CCP\EVE\c_program_files_ccp_eve_tranquility" on Windows XP and "%LOCALAPPDATA%\CCP\EVE\c_program_files_ccp_eve_tranquility" on Windows Vista.
The only other possibility is that post Apocrypha Eve does not meet the minimum system requirements for Eve, which you can check here.

How exactly do I find this one: "%LOCALAPPDATA%\CCP\EVE\c_program_files_ccp_eve_tranquility"?

Just copy that, without the quotes, into the address bar of explorer and it will take you to the correct folder.

Edited by: Steve Miner on 12/04/2009 18:13:14 I cannot find the cache from these instructions either (I have Vista). If you cannot locate the cache, you could try uninstalling Eve and then search for any eve files that might be left. Then try deleting those files or if they are the cache files, clearing the cache

You may need to have administration access for it to work. Try pasting it into start>run. Failing that you can navigate to it manually at something like:
C:\Users\yourname\AppData\Local\CCP\EVE\c_program_files_ccp_eve_tranquility

Try using this instead:
%LOCALAPPDATA%\CCP\EVE\
Look for a directory and go

That's what I just posted above. If people can't even work out to look in the directory above I am sorry for the world.

So to fix the problem I simply delete the cache folder?

make certain your drivers are up to date
if it continues go to ccp folder and run the game in safe mode.

Further to Tranka's advice, you may also want to go into Tools->Folder Options->View and show hidden files and folders as I believe AppData is hidden by default.
Edit: Typo

The fact that you told an obvious tech newb to copy and paste "%LOCALAPPDATA%\CCP\EVE\c_program_files_ccp_eve_tranquility" into the address bar of Windows Explorer (not saying Windows but just explorer, which newbs may think INTERNET explorer) shows your lack of being a true tech support professional.
Dumb it down, spell it out.
OP: the default install if you just install to the C: drive and where to find these cache folders are all listed in the Eve Online Knowledge Base in the tech support section.

I forget that IE is explorer too to some people, as I never use it. And I was only ever a tech support professional for a very short time about ten years ago. However I was merely psting the advice from the knowledge base, so go ***** to ccp, not me.

A patronising statement said with smile just makes it more patronising.
As for DEP problems: Check that you are running as administrator (right click on the shortcut you are using for Eve and check properties). If you are still having problems you can disable DEP altogether:
Disable DEP in Vista:
1. Click Start 2. Click All Programs 3. Click Accessories 4. Right Click on Command Prompt 5. Left click on Run as Administrator 6. Click the Allow button if it asks you for permission 7. Type or copy and paste this into the command prompt window:
bcdedit.exe /set {current} nx AlwaysOff
8. Hit enter and you should see the confirmation: Operation Completed Successfully 9. Reboot and DEP should be off.

FYI, I tried all of those suggestions for turning off DEP in Vista and was never able to get the Command Prompt to recognize bcedit as a command. No matter what directory I'm in, Running the dosbox as an Admin, etc.

This is falling into the SEP category for me I'm afraid. Have a look on the web, doesn't sound like this is an Eve-only issue.
