still same here having problems. at first thought it was my laptop but doom is very playable. eve that is another story. everything is fine, but when I am close to a space station, it acts like I am in slow motion. everything on the screen just sloows down and I mean sloooowwwwwwww.
I tried different drivers and all. at this point not even sure if its an XP think might go back to 2000.

I have the same problem, the computer freezes after some time, 1 to 45 minutes. I've tried it all...reinstalled Windows, EVE, new drivers. Please do something.

For those with freezing problems:
Maybe your power supply is a bit weak? Try getting some kind of monitoring software for your motherboard so you can watch the supply voltages while you are playing (play windowed for that). They normally also allow you to set acoustic alarms for when the voltage gets too low/high.
Ciao, Aronis!

I don't think it's the power supply. Eve worked perfectly before the patch. The computer freezes ONLY in eve.

Let's assume for a moment that only EVE, since the last patch, uses that certain little part of your GPU that causes the power supply to not deliver the required minimum voltage.
Please try checking if that's it. Different programs and program versions mean different stress for your hardware.

Interesting problem you guys seem to be having there.
Inorder for the problem to be isolated it would be good if you all posted a little info about your specifications and software configurations such as:-
CPU Memory Graphics card Drivers e.g. OMEGA, default ATI etc Operating system directX version Have you installed service pack 2
Try doing the following:-
removing your drivers properly with http://www.driverheaven.net/cleaner/ and installing the default ATI drivers if you aren't using them. Try also different driver versions and post your results in here.
If you guys see that you all have something similar in terms of your configurations i.e. you all might have DX9.0c or SP2 try uninstalling or downgrading these to previous versions.
Basically eve may have a bug but you guys can help yourselfs by finding out why you all have this bug and no one else has and removing the cause once you have isolated it. Help yourselves rather than complaining about how CCP messed up cause you now have problems since the last patch
good luck

I had problem freezing after the patch also and tried a few things.
Here's what didn't work: -revert video drivers to 53.03 (nvidia) -clean cache -turn audio off -lower resolutions and graphics quality
Here's what did work: -uninstall sp2
I was having crashes from 1-25mins apart every time without fail after the patch came out and after I did the sp2 uninstall, it never crashed after 7hrs of play, and counting....
My system specs:
Window xp Geforce fx5700le 256mb celeron 2.4ghz 640mb DDR ram DX 9.0c
Good luck

Edited by: Rishi Maeze on 06/09/2004 11:46:14 I get a similar problem - although the PC only resets when I engage in combat (mining asteroids is fine though!).
Running a P4 2.4 512MB RAM, WinXP Home SP1, Radeon 9800Pro (latest catalyst drivers), DirectX 9.0b. Virus Checked & Spyware checked.
There is another thread discussing this too, so I can only assume that this is a serious problem. I would hope the "replace the power supply" is not the official fix, as I would prefer to have the patch taken back than fork out for a new power supply, when even Doom3 doesn't give me this kind of problem!

I have has this lock-up problem since I started using EVE on a laptop. Spec is:
Pentium 4 3.2GHz, 512MB DDR3200 RAM Mobility Radeon 9200 Using Omega Drivers (latest version) XP SP2 DirectX 9.0c
The game freezes every time I play, often after around 30-60 minutes, but sometimes after only 5-10 minutes. Doesn't matter whether I run the game in fullscreen mode, or window mode or in XGA or XGA+ resolution... Happens when just flying, or docking, sometimes in combat, sometimes when mining...
I had to install the Omega drivers to get EVE to load in the first place (the latest ATI graphics didn't work). I installed SP2 to see if it made any difference, but it hasn't.
The only thing I have left to check is to see whether it is DirectX 9.0c - but I cannot load 9.0b as the installer says I have the latest version of DirectX already (true, but not helpful).
I don't believe it to be a heat issue, as I have no problems with any other game and I can hardly change the PSU on my laptop...

I have been having the same problems when I play eve. It either happens in the station or when I am flying out into space. I turned the UI off and that seemed to help a bit, but when I turn the UI on again I freeze up, and some times my computer restarts automatically. I heard it can be a power supply problem to the video card, because the new patch needed more GPU.

This same freezing started happen to me aswell after I installed latest 98 compatible forceware on my computer. It just freezes at anytime from 5 min to 1 hour. I have to restart computer because in win98 task manager isn't as good as in newer MS UI's..
First I doubt it was heating problem since I have had some problems with my display adapter's coolant fan, but I checked it now and it worked.
Then I reinstalled my old drivers, which used to run eve ok except some small bugs, but it didn't help either.
Now I'm considering to reinstall windows and drivers completely and pray for best...
AMD 1800 WIN98 512 RAM GF4 ti4200 DirectX 9.0c Power Supply 350W

Ok, I tried to re-install windows 98 and I also upgraded my drivers precisely to the point they were before I had this crashing problem, but it didn't help. My game is still freezing time to time and there is nothing I can do besides rebooting machine, buts that quite annoying when it has to be done every 15min or so.
After reading posts above I'm getting impression that this freezing could actually be because of latest patch?
Any ideas? Anyone? ... I'm getting depressed here

Bah, actually there is no-one to blame except my ol' PC.. It've become multi-invalid with broken HDD and overheating craphics card..
Err.. It's not actually eve related, but does anyone know why W2K won't install on my hard drive but Win98 will? I'm certain that w2k version is fresh-install version..
In case anyone can help, here are problem specs:
Upon installation of win2k, setup program copies files from w2k cd to hard drive when booting from windows cd. Copying goes allright, as hd formatting but when it comes time to reboot, BIOS gives message that no operating system found(so this comes at first reboot, when windows setup should be on the hard-drive).
There is no such problem with my 98 tho.
Could it be that there is something wrong with my HDD's boot sector?
Any ideas how it can be fixed?
If CCP would sell EVE-computers(computers with optimal EVE performance) in EVE store I would certainly order one
So I am considering of buying new piece of PC's in near future so I would appreciate good hints about choice of equipment(display adapters, sound cards etc..) to make EVE run flawlesly. Thanks in advance.

I have the same problem, when I start Eve, my system gets a bluescreen after a few minutes. No Matter where i am in the game, or what i am clicking.
But: After one or two reboots its all fine and I can play until my new cruiser has been shot to pieces. Looks like my PC is too cold instead of too hot.
My problem is: After the bluescreen my Win2K needs ages to come up. (20 minutes)
System is Win2k GC Radeon 9600 SBLive Pentium 2.4 Ghz 1024 MB ram
-------------------------------------------------------------------------- Write 1000 Times: I dont try to Pod you again when the officer is near !

Edited by: Kai Duracknar on 09/10/2004 11:36:07 OK, it seems EVE has a probelm with ATI card when the AGP speed is set to X8 and fast write to 'On'
I turned these to X4 and 'Off' respectivly and have not had a lock up in 4 days (running 2 clients on one machine in windowed mode..and long 3-6 hour miningsessions.)
If you have an ATI then try this. If you have a Nvidia card then see if you have equivelent settings and try them....
