I'm trying to understand how the standings mechanics really work. Let's assume that I have +10.00 for faction A and -10.00 for Faction B. Both factions, for the sake of argument, dislike eachother completely (i.e. -10.00)
Now let's further assume that I start running missions for Faction B (the -10.00 one). Whenever I get storyline missions, Faction B's standings will go up and Faction A's go down.
At the point in time when I hit 0.00 with Faction B - have I understood it correctly that Faction A will have degraded to 5.00? Or am I completely in the shadows here?
Thanks to future posters for their advice |

Math the the rescue!!!!!
Example - Faction A - Gallente Federation - Current Standing 3 Faction B - Caldari State - Current Standing -1 Your social skill is 5.
Lets assume you complete a L4 story line for Gallente that has a base standing gain of 5%.
Your Gallente standing will increase by 6.25% (modified for your social standing). Your new Gallente standing is 3 +(10-3)*(.0625) = 3.475
Your Caldari standing will decrease by 5% modified by the derived Relationship (see http://www.newedenlibrary.net/eon/faction_standings.shtml). In this case -5. Therefore your Caldari standing will decrease by 2.5%. New caladri standing = -1 + (-10-(-1))*(.025) = -1.225 NOTE YOUR CALDRI STANDING CAN NEVER DROP BELOW -5 from running Gallente storyline missions. You have to destroy Caldri ships to get your Caldari Standing below -5 OR run missions for someone that the Caldari hate more than the Gallente.
As to your original example . . . your math is off. Set up a spreadsheet if you want to see how they flow

Many thanks, although it pains me to see that it will in effect be extremely hard to get good standings with most factions then |

It can be done but only with the big four. To pull it off you'll need to "walk" your standings with the big four upwards by alternating who you run missions with. I might suggest starting with whomever you've got the lowest faction standing with. Because of the derived standing loss you'll need to switch once a different faction attains the coveted "least favored" status.
Combined the above method with running the SoE and Empire faction Epic Arc, which give you a faction standing gain, but not the derived standings loss, and you can get all four factions above +5.
If you are interested in learning more I would encourage you to check out DMC's Faction Standing Repair Plan, which has some additional tips and tricks. |
