Fun game, but....
The first big disappointment came shortly after the first time i docked when i discovered that i could not roam around in the station talking to other players and npcs, i almost quit because of it. I've moved past that, and have even heard rumors of the developers trying to create that environment. I can live with out it now, but it is a slap in the face to new players.. two of my friends quit after a day because of it
A few weeks after that i joined a corp. With out a corp, this game would be very lonely. IMHO, every one in a npc corp should be put in a corp recruitment channel.
My next big disappointment came after I heard my corp talking about making a safe spot at a moon. That is when i discovered that the planets, moons, and even stars are huge imaginary "hologram" book marks in space. If i wanted, i could fly through a moon, and i'm not talking about warping through them (i can accept that). I think if a ship gest too close to a planet or moon, it should pull the ship in to a decaying orbit and crash. A star should cause heat damage the closer a ship gets to it, or something, until the ship explodes.
Also, why aren't there npc ships flying around the planets and moons?
Another small issue i have is with drones, they seem like an after thought or something. I have some ideas that i will put in the suggestions form later... Whatever, my ideas will make it fun for me, but probably throw the game off balance hehe. I'm ok with their current state, its not like an imaginary planet!
Over all, I like the game and think i will stick around for a little while

Psst...NPC ships around planets/moons would make the game WAY too laggy. There's literally hundreds of thousands of planets and moons in EVE...
Although, I've seen discussions about NPC ships hanging around gates and stations... Obviously what I say isn't always what my alliance thinks. I hate to break it to you, but this is in fact my signature.

So not being able to wander around in stations in a space combat game is a 'slap in the face'?

Well, that too....
Wait, you DID do your research before trying to play, right? They made a "Features" page for a reason. Obviously what I say isn't always what my alliance thinks. I hate to break it to you, but this is in fact my signature.

I agree that the planets/moons/stars etc. are a bit lame in their implementation, but honestly, a ship with a warp drive isn't going to go spiralling into a planet just because it gets a little close. Warping to 0 still leaves you several thousand KM away.
Starts leave you hundreds of thousands of km away, and your ship is heavily shielded for these sorts of things, so unless you go flying into the stars atmosphere...
Also: Space is big. You won't see a swarm of spaceships around a planet anymore than you'll see commercial jets covering every inch of the sky. It's not a lack of traffic, just a lot of space for that traffic. |

? ? ? hmmm.
Why would you want to walk around in station to chat to a person - chat channel maybe of use ?
I suppose we could all go down the second life route, and have outrageous/pathetic/useless coloured space suits.
Join a corp ? yes if you like giving money away, its not a lonely game solo, if you have mates to chat to.
This aint flight sim x, damage when flying into a moon ? jeez.
Why would you want to circle a moon in your ship ? its like why circle a station ?
Drones arent an after thought if you can use them, generally, peeps blame them and curse them when they f*** up themselves.
To me, there isnt any point of walking round a station, apart from the "poncy look at me attitude" it will generate.
Maybe a facial mirror would be something you could ask for ?

Hmm yes you are entirely correct.
As ccp has limitless resources and staff to create all these wonderful features, as well as the amazing hardware to keep it up and running, I too, am wondering why such hugely important and necessary details that have a major impact to the flow of the game have not been there from the start.
I mean, it's not like it would take hundreads of workhours from dozens of people to create, nor that it'd be a huge load to the hardware, game engine and flow balance.
Surely ccp now realizes how important these things are to us, and though they really don't affect the way we play the game, they're such easy to create and implement features that we can expect them any time now.

Aaaah, Faillancer. Apart from the wonderful graphics there wasn't really anything good about that game whatsoever. Trading sucked. AI sucked. Ship scales sucked. Weapons/shields/items (god-awful shield/armor repair feature alone contributed to 50% of the fail in this area alone). Ship balance/power made even less sense - Rheinland could just invade all the other areas and win through power - or even better - the different pirate sections at the far end systems could just take over half the game world with 5 ships.
Want features? Get some from Freespace 2 instead - that is instant win right there and then :D

All the things you'd like would be nice to have in the game,but....
...if you must see your character or you'll quit then I have bad news for you.
...if you want stars to deal damage if you're too close and planets to drag ships and crash them if you get too close then welcome to a few years ago.
Basically all those things you mentioned are nice but not absolutely necessary just because you like them. The 'Fendahlian Collective' strikes again |

I agree, WiS will expand the appeal of EVE considerably on the social side of things.
If that side of things seems insignificant it's probably not aimed at you anyway.
Drone UI as with much of the rest of the UI isn't great.

What Freelancer had that really didn't suck was a space geography. You saw the other regions and systems at a far distance and you felt like you moved towards them as you progressed through space. It had interesting and very moody space features full of nooks and crannies you could find which actually had a coherent story behind them…
…it also had the Drake, which for some odd and unexplainable reason is my favourite game-spaceship ever.
But yes, on the whole, Freelancer made roughly no sense at all. ——— “If you're not willing to fight for what you have in ≡v≡… you don't deserve it, and you will lose it.” — Karath Piki |

You can't assume a game is going to meet the expectations of your imagination. As human imagination is infinate, the amount of time it takes to develop, code, and debug our imagination into reality is not realistic. You have to look at it from the point of, EVE is farther along that path than any other game ever will be. I'd rather have a game that has a 6 year content & development backing, before moving forward with new areas of gaming nobody has ever touched before. The largest challenge will be integrating different engines together, for say Space/Station/Atmosphere/Planetside. It's not easy, and it's not something that can be achieved in a year or two, at least not with the amount of developers CCP employs.
Any long term player knows exactly how much work CCP puts into both the front end and back end of the game. EVE is not about profit for them, it's about breaking gaming barriors. --------------

If you're gonna whine about moons and planets you might want to start with the most critical issue at hand. They are stationary and don't orbit the sun

Freelancer: I liked the graphics...
...you didn't fly through moons/stations. ...you actually "docked" at the station. ...you would see some kind of energy beam as you transferred cargo from a container to your ship. ...planet AND station docking. ...missile view (my favorite) ride your missile to your destination. BOOM!!!
It had it's good features, but YES..the game as a whole sucked.

Do a little searching before jumping to conclusions: History of West Virginia - The Rear Guard of the Revolution Lists of Early Forts http://files.usgwarchives.net/wv/history/military/forts.txt Now look for Fort Bush.
Friggen politics needs to stay out of this game.

I too believe CCP should spend time creating features that a minority of players would use once out of curiosity, whine about on the forums and then never bother with ever again.
