Hey,
I'm new to the game, yes I know im a noob. But 2 days playtime....
I started the game yesterday, and I was asking alot of questions on Rookie, as its all new. A player called 'Captain Norton' messaged me and helped me out. Was helping with questions and wanted me to join his corp.
Anyway, he said that there is a great trick you can do when you leave station. Where you can jump into a friends ship. Basically he asked if I can jump out of my ship, so I can board his ship. So he could take me to the corp to sign up.
Being a noob, I didnt want to upset him as he helped me. I jumped ship (my Retail shuttle), he then said come to him. Next he was in my retail shuttle and warped.
I'm now wondering around with a capule, thinking WTF. Have I been scammed. Well 'Captain Morgan' then logged off.
Its a lesson learn't, you aparantly can get conned in EvE without GM support. This is a warning for Noobies. Its a bad world in EvE and everyone wants your Retail shuttle.
I'm not going to get down because of this. Its only a ship.
However for the bastard to pull this on me . I would like to get some revenge.
Any thoughts on how I can do this?

he was probably using an alt character so trying to get revenge on him depends on your knowing his main... try some forum research, check previous contracts of the char etc etc... chances are you have nothing.
scamming IS a valid in game activity as you just found out
glad you didn't take it in the wrong spirit.
props to you for not whining
welcome to eve
trust no one, if you do do it carefully.

Edited by: RedSplat on 17/04/2009 00:48:37 We are allowed to con, scam, ransom, extorted and otherwise victimise you within the rules of this game.
Get used to it or get even.
If you whine about it on the forums bad people take notice of you and bad things happen to you in game.
Edit: No I'm not saying you are whining, I'm just giving a nice friendly C&P warning.

being that all you lost was a shuttle I'll try and help you out by telling you ALL of the contracts spammed in local chats are scams.
(its not ALL of them exactly, but a repulsive majority are)
And don't forget, scamming is a two way street

This TBH.. You got scammed out of your shuttle.. That sucks when your 2 days old.. But its not like it the crime of the century or anything.
You have however gotten a very good lesson out of it. One that MANY people pay a LOT more for.

For clarity of context - the OP says "Retail shuttle". I believe he's talking about the Interbus shuttle you get with the new retail box. That's like, valuable or something... isn't it?

Non scam contracts have the Interbus shuttle at about 10M.. so still not a lot.

Dang that sucks, but hey as already said lesson learned, everyone in eve is out to get you, if you are minding your own business or asking for help thats when someone sees you as a target.
Eve is a great game but you need to be space wise, never trust anyone is the first lesson, the second is always obey the first!
most of all remember it is a game and have fun, just think that one day you will seek revenge! whether it be at Captain Morgan or the rest of the Eve universe!

10M is alot for a 2 day old toon. If he was scammed in starter system might get it refunded. ---------------- "You lost your eye to a seagull dropping?," "Well," said the pirate, "it was my first day with my hook"

First of all, if it was in a starter system, I would petition CCP about it. They might confiscate it from Captain Norton, give him a warning or even ban his account, and give it back to you, or give you a new one entirely.
Secondly, if that fails, you can sift through the contracts and see who is putting an Interbus shuttle up for sale. Chances are there aren't too many of them on the selling contracts (item exchange / auctions). Write down the names of all the people selling them.
Look up the characters selling the shuttle, and go through their contract histories, and see if you can find Captain Morgan in there. If you can't, then check the contract history of the people they have been contracting with. It just might be that he's "laundering" his stuff through 2 alts.
When you have a long list of names, you go do missions until you can access a level 2 locator agent.
Then you pay your agent for the whereabouts of all those people.
Now for the tricky part. You'll need at least a battlecruiser with smartbombs, so you might want to buy some PLEX's on the EVE account management site and sell them in-game for money (it's legit).
Then look up all the punks on your hitlist and suicide gank them all. Chances are you just might nail Captain Norton in your death spree.
Other than that, I don't really see how you can get even. It's reaching, but hey, better to kill 20 people too many and maybe kill him too, rather than never killing him at all.
If I see him in low/no-sec though, I'll podkill him and send him your love though. -------------------------------------------------- "Every complex problem has a solution which is easy, neat and wrong!" |

Since you are a new player you might want to try to petition, you might get your stuff back.
Forget about revenge, at least for now. Almost certainly the guy was using an alt. |

Edited by: Mendolence on 17/04/2009 18:32:07 This is the single weakest scam I've ever heard of. A freakin' shuttle? That's hilarious. A massive 5000 to 10k ISK payday!! Cha-ching!! I'm sorry for your loss but, honestly, I can't help but feel your scammer got the short end of the deal. He/she could have made vastly more ISK by doing almost anything else. Heck, you can simply _think_ about mining veldspar and make more.
Edit: wait, am I confusing my shuttles here?

Edited by: Captain Norton on 18/04/2009 02:18:44 Ill have the record show that "Masterpro" bought the shuttle for 999,999,999 ISK.(Check this character's contracts) And you guys said it was a lame scam, not worth anything LOLOLOLOLOL. Furthermore, He wasn't in a starter system, he only had to go back to grab his shuttle, good luck with that petition, bub. Plus you were on a trial first, werent you? And you guys will never find my Main, its futile. So good luck with that.
P.S. Anytime you convince someone to eject from their ship, so they can steal yours, and they do....they ought to have their head examined.

Captain Norton is always online, this is his main. He is trying to side-track you.
This will haunt you Captain Norton, I've already got a few rogue bounty hunters to **** your ass. Luckily my RL friend gave me 200m to put a bounty on you.
