Ok so I was in Jita the other day and I had some items I was selling over contracts and spamming them in local. I had to block about 30 people in the space of 10 minutes with the 99.. etc scams but once that was out of the way, I was spamming away with my 10 or so contracts.
A guy opens a convo with me and asks how it is that I can link the contracts so that they don't way "want to buy". I explain to him that these are selling contracts and if he wants to sell something he has to set it as an item exchange etc rather than a buying contract.
He says he's doing that but it's still not working, it's adding the tag WTB onto the contract.
Since I had nothing better to do I actually went to the effort of frapsing myself setting up a contract, edited it and uploaded it on to youtube for him. In the HD viewing you can read the text ok.
I sent him the link to it and he was very appreciative. He thanked me and I felt good about myself. It's nice helping new players, ya know?
Moving on to the next day...
His char is in Jita spamming 999... contracts and scamming people.
:S
I didn't get scammed out of isk but I got scammed out of goodwill. --

Reminds me of when I was helping a "noob" set up a contract - at the point where I said "put 5000000" as the ask price, he had to "sort a real life emergency".
10 min later - he is back in local, spamming a scam contract.
Got to love Jita. *** You're only as good as your last fight. |

There really should be a Trading Standards in EVE.
The scams are getting a bit out of hand. Still, people are falling for it which I guess is why they're getting out of hand. The sooner people learn that no one on the face of the planet is going to sell a full set of standards for 500k, the better.
They never will though, which is why I support the closure of Jita Local.
Let people advertise contracts on the Concord billboards at cost, or something like that.
Oh Controversy!

now tell me if its worth reading the OP
#edit oh wait, you are a contract spammer ... why do people think that there are people which cant use the contracts system and cant search by themself? Contract spamming is as anoying as scams are.

Hmm well at the moment it's not even worth spamming contracts as it gets lost amongst all the 99999 scams. I dunno, I don't find it too annoying, sometimes there's good deals to be had. I usually put mine so there's about 10% lower than the standard contract price and then link them in local about once an hour if I'm in Jita. Usually gets me a quick sale and I don't think it bothers that many people. People who relentlessly spam 10 contracts every 30 seconds, yes, they're annoying.
Besides, complaining about people linking (legit) contracts in Jita local is a bit... I mean, what else are you going to look at Local in Jita for? You're either watching Jita local in order to:
1) Sell stuff 2) Buy stuff 3) Scam stuff 4) War targets, if you're in to that kind of thing
There is no other use for Jita local. I've had the odd conversation in Jita local before but it's very difficult to keep up - more so even than the Help channel. So complaining about it is, as I say, a bit silly. --

Complaining about getting scammed in Jita is like complaining about getting an STD from a hooker in TJ... You go there and you know the risks.

It goes back quite a bit, originally on an IRC channel. Someone typed:
I ACCIDENTLY THE WHOLE COKE BOTTLE
Someone replied:
What??
and the first person said:
THE WHOLE BOTTLE
... Now as to exactly he was doing with a "whole coke bottle" I'm sure we can leave to everyone's imagination. I like to think he was drinking it and not sticking it inside a body orifice but there we go :)
Since then, people have used it like the above person, completely out of context to the point that it doesn't even make sense. They use such memes because they think it makes them look cool, but because they don't know how to use them correctly, instead they just end up looking like a tit :) --

Yup. Twice, now. I've actually been back longer than this, I was waiting out my forum bans on my accounts after my last, um, how was it described?
"Dude, don't burn your bridges like that"
"He's not burning them, it looks like he's dropping a tactical nuke on them"
1 account is permabanned, 1 has a month to go and Ralara just got out of her 90 day ban --
