Hello,
After the 1.1 update, I find somehow a way larger FPS difference between the Full Screen and Windowed mode. Windowed gives my about 30-40 FPS, Full Screen 60-80 FPS. Before 1.1 I didn't have the hugs difference afaik.
But, the thing that happens know in windowed mode is that the FPS seems okay, but all the 'animations' seems to kinda 'stutter' in windowed mode now. Also, in windowed mode it seems to use only like 60% of the core regular instead of the available 100%. Even more strange, EVE seems to use more cycles on the CPU when its running in background?
I have this in both Premium and/or Lite modes.
Is someone else experiencing this behaviour, or maybe I have to change settings somewhere?
The box is a iMac 2008 Alu, nVidia 8800GS with 4Gb ram and latest Leopard.

I had the quite the same issue. It might be related to available graphics RAM (the GS does have 256MB, am I right?). In windowed mode, there is a bunch of it required for rendering the Aqua GUI and if EVE + OS X GUI go just bove the available graphics RAM, the performance will drop heavily.

The 8800GS has 512Mb, that should be enough.
But I didn;t have this problem before the 1.1 patch. Also, tabbing to fullscreen solves the problem right away, and I can't imagine the complete VRAM is flushed just be tabbing EVE to fullscreen while the other apps are still in background.
Maybe it's a setting that I tried from the other threads that give this problem now, I have to test it, but on full screen I have a straight FPS line in the graphics, while in windowed mode it's jumping up and down clearly.
However, according to the replies on this topic, i think it must be something only on my system, so I'll have to nail it down here.

Was thinking it might as something to do with VSYNC, so I disabled VSYNC and confirmed it was off seeing as the FPS surged way beyond the 60fps VSYNC cap... when in fullscreen at least. But it didn't matter the graphic settings I tried, as soon as I went back to window mode the framerate would jerk around average 43fps (FPS graph was like a saw).

I found a temporary (IT BETTER BE TEMPORARY!) fix.
I have a dual monitor setup. I simply moved the window to the second monitor, and the stuttering went away.
I hope there is a fix soon tho, because the ergonomics of this arrangement ain't ideal. Plus, my secondary monitor is a crappy 19" TN panel.

I found another temporary fix. Just barely have the edge of the window on the second monitor. As soon as any rendering is done on the second monitor, the stuttering goes away.

Someone found the answer to the stuttering problem in another thread. Set "Present Interval" to "Interval imediate" under Display & Graphics

Edited by: SPACE L0RD on 06/06/2009 22:37:13 Setting interval to one works well also. Immediate was spiking me from 100fps and dipping into the 20's like when warping to a pause....then it picks up to 55'ish. WIth interval=1 it caps it to around 60 like the default value does in fullscreen. I have my OSX BeamSync turned off.
What I still HATE is the fact that the desktop is still soooow slow and practically unusable when playing in full screen mode. Thats the only reason I'm using windowed mode atm....
