I highly recommend the class. It's about 4 hours of basic PvP theory and introduction followed by about 4 hours of practical application in 0.0 (Roving Frig gang).
From my understanding, Agony is probably one of the most highly organized and professionally run corporations in EVE. The course definitely reflects this and you will learn alot.

Back when I was still learning PvP I took several Agony classes and can attest to their excellent educational value, as well an entertaining fleet experience.
Checking my own alumni record, I find the following:
BASIC-2103081800 WOLFPACKS-041920081900 CAPSUPPORT-070620081600 ADVANCED-061420081600 BOMBERS-072620081600 FLEET COMMAND - 1512080200
For someone still getting their feet wet, I would strongly recommend following the curriculum of PvP Basic, Wolfpacks, then Advanced. You get to enjoy flying in very organized gangs, learn how to set ewar up for fleets and make tactical bookmarks, among many other things. Basic is centered around frigates, Wolfpacks around destroyers, Advanced around cruiser hulls.
They offer a couple other classes I have not taken and some of their classes are changing with recent updates to the game (Cov Ops and Bombers classes, etc.).
Another unfortunate note is that AU have run fewer and fewer classes over the past 6 months. Most of the time they have PvP Basic running about once or twice a month, but you'll have to jump on Wolfpacks, Advanced and other classes as they are announced - since they are (sadly) much rarer and fill up quickly. |

Thanks for the endorsement, actually though we've been running more classes with more instructors lately than we ever have before in Agony. We are taking a couple weeks off for corp-focused events, but we've been pretty consistently doing a class or two every weekend.
And as far as the length of classes go, theory tends to be about 3 hours, then we go out roaming for however long people want to. Once you've finished with the theory portion you've graduated from the class though, and are free to come back to the same class as an alumni for free (including just coming for the practical portion of the next class).

From http://www.agony-unleashed.com/e107_plugins/forum/forum_viewtopic.php?117464:
Quote: The prices for BASIC, WOLFPACKS and ADVANCED have changed as follows:
BASIC - 12mil (10mil corporate) WOLFPACKS - 18mil (16mil corporate) ADVANCED - 30mil (28mil corporate)
But try reading http://www.eve-tribune.com/index.php?no=4_13&page=1 and http://www.eve-tribune.com/index.php?no=4_16&page=3 its gives a good inside of what happens at the classes |

This may be an unuaual request, but you guys should really jack up the price on basic. The mad dash to get registered in 10 minutes for one of the slots is a pain (finally got in this time).

Would be cool if they did this as there is no shortage of players wanting to enroll.

We try to keep our prices low (especially for Basic) so that our classes are accessible to new players.

*grins* We don't tend to advertise much, other than our participation in the Alliance Tournament and word-of-mouth. Seems we always have a lot of people banging on the door to get into the classes, though.
A post I wrote the other day in our Enrollment forum is quoted below. The tl;dr version of it is: we're focusing internally for a month or two and will be back in full swing offering a class every weekend sometime in the middle of the summer, possibly as soon as late June, but certainly by mid July.
Quote: Like any organization, Agony has both a public and private face. Publicly, we are the PVP training resource in EVE. No one else comes close to our professionalism, expertise or accessibility. The time is quickly approaching where it will become common knowledge that in order to "break in" to the PVP game in EVE one needs to first take a few Agony PVP-University classes to jump-start. How many people over the last few years have learned their love of the pew-pew at the patient, instructive hands of Agony teachers? (Answer: thousands)
But we cannot neglect the private face of Agony in our enthusiasm to share our love of the tactical chess game that is PVP in EVE Online. Every time we offer a BASIC class, we get two or three "converts" who come to us expressing their love of the way Agony approaches PVP. Some of them we turn away, but many are accepted into our ranks. When we have boom months like the last two here in PVP-U, where we offer another class nearly every weekend, and on some weekends two, we get an accompanying boom in applicants and new members in Agony. In order for us to properly train and accept these members into our ranks, we have to have time to pay attention to them, run internal seminars to indoctrinate them, run gangs to test them, etc.
So what does Agony do behind closed doors? Well, if you've been through an Agony class, you've seen a glimpse of it. We move to various regions of space, set up shop in an NPC station and proceed to play with the locals. We shoot them, they shoot us, they lose ships, it's fun for everyone. *grin* Seriously, we do a lot of internal development of tactics, logistics for these moves, gangs roaming through our chosen vacation spot looking for targets of opportunity, even the occasional POS-killing operation to **** off the locals and encourage them to come out and play. We need time to do these things as well, because for those of us who are members of Agony, this is what Agony is to us day in and day out. We can log on at any time of the day and be virtually guaranteed to have a group of guys willing to fit up and head out to shoot something. When PVP-U is in a state of boom, as was the case for the last few months, we start to see the beginnings of burn-out in our members. Less gangs are run, less internal tactics development, etc.
So, PVP-U is currently in the downswing, the trough of the wave. We're more active now behind the scenes than we have been in a while. Our North American TZ group has so many new members that we've closed recruitment there temporarily to handle mentoring and teaching all of these guys and, yes, girls, to fit into the way Agony does things in EVE. Please be patient with us as we build up some more momentum. We're going to be going through a move to a new region soon (this downswing was partially in preparation for that move), and will be spinning the University back into full-bore operations soon.
Now, don't take this to mean that PVP-U is "dying" or any other such dramatic label. We're absolutely nothing of the sort. We have more instructor and FC volunteers now than we have ever had in the history of the University, so far as I am aware. View this as a healthy period of hibernation, healing and rest before we begin a new season. The classes announced will continue to go forward, but do not expect them to be as frequent as they have been in the last couple of months.

Some of the things are actually fairly "simple" but often seem to be overlooked by many... or could be my background making it seem that way lol.... Not having taken the class myself I can't personally vouch for it but have heard many good things from corp and alliance members that have

You're right, something like "we aren't too bad at this" is a much better advertisement.
Besides, when you are actually awesome, humility is only beneficial to forum warriors...

Agony remains neutral from our point of view - some choose to set us red because we shot them up once or twice, but we don't buy in to politics. We have a NASI policy (Not Agony Shoot It) in 0.0. We generally don't accept NAPs at all (with very few exceptions for short periods)
We do enforce strict rules for class participants, like observing a truce with war targets if they happen to be in the same class. Unless you're in one of our class gangs, you're a target as far as we're concerned. It doesn't mean we dislike you any more or any less than anyone else, you're all targets outside of class.
Thanks for the endorsement - both for the class and for being a pain in the butt - we're proud of both achievements.
