Just seeing if this is the fastest ship that money can buy (without getting crazy).
Low: 4x Overdrive II Mid: 1MN MWD II Rigs: 2x Auxilary Thrusters I
Gets about 5612m/s without leadership bonuses or drugs on all level 5 character.

I wouldn't call a snake set crazy, but yeah, using that same concept for all other inties, I believe the claw is the fastest around, but the crusader is just behind (5601m/s). And because of the way most Claws are fitted, Crusaders and even Crows will be faster when used properly.

Not sure following the recent months, but it used to be the crusader.

Edited by: Mykpilot on 22/04/2009 04:33:36 I was actually playing around a bit more and the Vagabond can get up to like 8500m/s but you gotta have commander level mods to get to get it cap stable with a 100MN MWD. But, you can get a good 30s out of it before the cap goes dry on it though with standard T2 stuff. |

In past testing (for a super bumping cane) a friend and I found that 100MN MWD's have a strange effect on sub-BS ships. The ships will accelerate insanely slowly, as if it was deliberately setup to make this fitting useless. The top speed is technically achievable but you need a ton of cap boosters or remote transfer.

They are deliberately set up to make this useless. A long time ago just after mwds started to increase sig radius people fit 10mn afterburners. They were then nerfed.

The fastest I managed with EFT was the vaga.

Has anyone got any faster? And about about "back in the day" on older patches when you used to be able to stack MWDs? Does anyone know the theoretical fastest that anyone in Eve has been able to calculate?
(I bolded and underlined the rule i broke)

Good luck accelerating and turning as well with that oversized mod.
It will work very very poor if flown.

Seems kinda slow for me... i was getting those kinda speeds in my plated (200mm) claw yesterday.
I know for sure I can overload to 7.6km/sec in a straight line and I dun have all level 5 but can't member if i had the plate in for that. I'm not an eft warrior, but i think that 4th overdrive is doing pretty much nothing, and the rigs are about the cost of the ship, so....
I will say that rigging/faction fitting/etc a claw (or any other paper thin ship for that matter) is just an isk sink sink for the rich

Some people just want to do things, simply because they are possible. The harder/more expensive that thing is to do, then more bragging rights you have once you've achieved it. 9 times out of 10 this makes you look like a d*ck but there's always a small percent that will be jealous of you and an even smaller amount of people that'll be impressed (albeit secretly). I've a mate ingame who wants a Titan - purely for the reason he wants to be the first pilot in game (crazy boy that he is) to purposely self destruct one for no reason what so ever!
... Why? Because he can.
From what I can deduce using EFT, the vaga + serious modification is the fastest ship money can buy.(AND cheaper than a Titan ). Some one may want to do this if they're bored enough (try bouncing the idea past the griefers who are bored with too much isk around Jita or Dodixie).
Yes that ship will perform poorly, but the design of its fitting in that instance was for just pure straight line speed/max velocity attainable.
Yes I went slightly off topic by ignoring the part of the OP that said: "without getting crazy".
And lastly, yes, I sincerely apologise for trying to diversify the subject of conversation, to include a broader scope of focus for the thread, whilst still loosely revolving around the subject of fast ships (especially since the answer to the OP had been comprehensively covered by other readers in previous posts)

Good luck finding those, I remember I once thought I'd like to have one of those while eft-warrioring, sadly they dont seem to be ingame, or in such small quantities that its almost impossible to find one.

It's not a "strange effect," it's exactly what you'd expect. Propulsion modules add mass to ships when you turn them on, it's listed in the showinfo. The mass increase is fixed, it's not a percentage of the ship's mass. This is why you take longer to align when a mwd or AB is active, even from a stop - your ship isn't as agile.
The added mass seems normal on a ship of the appropriate class but if you throw a BS mwd onto a BC you're doing something silly like quadrupling the mass __________________________________

anyways, EFT whoring aside, the claw *could* be the fastest ship, if it had less mass than the 'sader.
since it hasn't (something that still boggles my mind until today), even with the bigger base speed, the claw is more penalized when fielding a mwd than the 'sader, thus you can get more speed out of the 'sader. ---
