I figured this has been asked before, but I couldn't find any threads on it. Anyways I have 2 chars, both in bs's atm, one is gallente and one is minmatar. My minmatar pilot already has sleipnir skills and I have a fit that equals my maelstrom tank with about 100-200 more dps but 1k less volley than the maelstrom and a lot less range. My question is, after being told that having the smaller sig, faster tracking, faster speed (somewhat..no ab still) that it's better than bs who are larger and slower...but the range is much greater in the upper lvl of missions. I was wondering what preferences you all have and also possibly which is better mission wise, eos or astarte? My sleip has arties for the range, but I see many lvl IV mission fits go for autocannons, any input on that? I seem to prefer to get them out far and let drones get them up close..anyways any help will be gladly welcomed (besides get a caldari ship). |

For lvl 4 missions: Maelstrom, and for your gallente guy just use an ishtar.
And then, he killed the dog... |

hmm ok, didn't know if faster tracking and dps would be better rather than the long range and volley. As for HAC, well will look at that, Gallente char has a bit to go for that lol. Still open for thoughts though, want to get a lot of options on this, I am wanting to up my kill speed so it doesn't take 1-2 hrs per mission with salvaging.

If you can get your sleipnir to have adequate damage at 40km, then choose it. Otherwise go Maelstrom.
Ignore Volley Damage, focus on DPS. |

Yea with EMP M I hit at 41km for over 100 dps more than maelstrom, though volley is 1000 less than strom. I have full t2 everything on my minmatar char, so maelstrom even has t2 guns, not sure if that changes it. Though is 40km enough? a lot of mission seem to be at 70km and further |

Already thought of ab, but it seriously takes a hit on the tank then and comes nowhere near my maelstrom

If you can get more damage from a CS than you can a BS, you're doing it wrong. The CS-BS equasion is always one of:
Gang bonuses/tank vs. gank
Medium-size weapons do half the base damage of large weapons. They're great if you want to deal with frigs and cruisers, but they can't match the damage of large weapons. Stepping into a command ship from a battleship means sacrificing DPS for tank, gang mods, and more ship management (speed, tank, etc).
In some situations (wormholes, complexes) they can be an improvement; but in regular L4 missions, you're better off in a battleship.
Oh, and Ishtar dude? Dominix. Seriously, why would a mission runner prefer a HAC over a Dom? Same drones, same bonus, but the Dom can either mount a full rack of guns (Ishtars have issues with good gun dps) or a wicked tank (dual LAR). And the winning point - the Dom, fully fitted, is cheaper than the Ishtar, unfit.

Yea I am keeping the domi after I did some math on ishtar. I have a dual LAR II on my domi and full wrack of guns with one taken out for a drone control range mod, mainly cause I was testing sentries vs heavies
