I don't know if its possible but it would be nice if ship skins(or whatever you like to call them) could be researched and created in game. These could be as simple as a Corp Logo on the hull or as ludicrous as say a purple Raven with pink spots. I just think it would be nice to be able to customize your ships in game. Making it something players could design and make/sell etc well that would be priceless.

I wonder why they never realize how silly it is? No one would ever see their customizations anyways, Eve is played with overview and zoomed max out (to admire the sceneries).

The x series did it and seemed to work pretty easily...
CCP is just too lazy

It had occured to me that I might not be the first person to think of this but rather than spend 2 hours searching the forums past I thought my time might be better suited if I just asked.
I realize EVE is played at max range and noone will see that your ship looks a bit different in combat. I just thought that some variety and personalization to those of us in carebear land might be something CCP would be interested in. It would add something new to the industry as well and even though no one else might look at my ships I certainly do and it would be nice to personalize them a bit.

Ok, I'm gonna stop this right here right now.
The issue has been raised many times, and basically CCP says: NO! GTFO! Life sucks, get a helmet. It would cause too much strain on the server, and thus it aint gonna happen.
Besides, how often are you actually looking at your ship? Or somebody elses ship? Shouldn't you be playing instead?
eve could use a lot of improvements, but this is not one of them.

Actually it'd take you about 30 seconds to check the "Commonly Suggested Ideas" thread, but I guess that's too much work.

My mining barge is in the center of the screen right in front of my nose for hours while mining.
Antique bronze and road stripe yellow are NOT favorite colors of mine at all. Why does the idea that I might want a purple mining barge with pink accents upset you so badly?
Obviously, complete custom skinning would be overkill for the benefit derived, but the ability to pick from half a dozen base and accent colors would make the experience more pleasant.

Actually CCP stated exactly the oposite. It will come - It is just unclear in which variation.

The true issue is:
Im sorry, but i cant link you a picture highlighting the problem - there is one player posting here with an impressive signature :o) a full colorized pink flowered kestrel - just unable to find a post from him now to link it directly. Not that the signature is somehow wrong - its just like a pink fluffy-ship is not really fitting into eve's artistic vision.
But actually just look into this thread ;o) here is also one galente with a little bit pink in his signature :P

The X series doesn't have 50,000 people playing at the same time. I don't even turn on sprays when I play valve games, I don't want to see someone's logo and I don't want my bandwidth wasted on it.

player skins would be nice but remember we are talking near exponential additional database calls just to see if a player got a custom skin, so just think the lag generated by Jita/motsu or any fleet fight, and we are talking per grid always. a 1vs1 fight on a grid will only generate 2 additional query, let's take a 10vs 10 fight, we get 380 added query. Let's take a 500vs500 fleet fight which is nowaday pretty common, we get an added we are looking at about 999000 added database query just to resolve "custom skin: Y/N". Now add those numbers and multiply them by every grid there is more then 1 player in, everytime a new player gets loaded into any occupied grid all the time.
While it would be nice to have the option I prefer to play eve-online and not desync/node cascade crash/lag online everytime a big group of player meet an other big group of player probably even medium encounters too.

a good idea wold be to have different ccp color schemes for your ships...
that would not be so much lag.
