We all know the "problem" Alt for trading in empire - alts for invention - alts for production - alts for research - alts for everything... Personally I'm pretty tired of the endless alt-juggling, running multiple accounts and seeing the login screen more than the game itself...
Thats why I came up with an idea that should dramatically increase game fun, decrease game frustration and actually not too difficult to implement...
Character slot merging! Allows to merge 2 or even all 3 character slots of an account into one slot - which in return opens up to the merged character a second (or third) line of trade, science and industry skill trees.
They all have to be trained from scratch again - the only advantage is that the training skills are already with this character - to offset that advantage simply add a new skill to be learned - called Neural Net Expansion which is needed to be able to use the merger skill trees (has to be like 8x or something).
I hope you guys (and especially CCP) like the idea. It also reduces server space needed to store the alts, items, etc.
Cheers Insomniatic Siri

And how much do you expect to pay for your new number of accounts?

Why not just allow accounts to have multple subscriptions.
Eg, I could have 1 account, with 2 standard subscriptions, which allows me to login to the account twice simultaneously, allows me to train 2 characters simultaneously, and allows me up to 6 characters.
It would be an issue of convenience: instead of having distinct groups of 3 characters, of which u may have 1 and 1 only logged in, you could mix an match more usefully.
The system could be rendered more customisable, and allow for smaller or larger subscriptions packages if wanted.

Thats the next step...merging accounts...
But one step at a time...
The main point is - not having to log in alt after alt all the time...but combine the three available trees of your account for trade, industry and science into one character - much nicer gameplay experience, less logging around and less load for the servers probably too...
I hope someone with CCP understands what I mean and sees the advantages...

let me see if I get this correctly, you are proposing that you train multiple chars on 1 account, and after a time merge them into 1 character? cheers, Faros

*facepalms* No, thats not what I mean.
My suggestion is to merge the character slots of an account - so that you only have 1 slot instead of 3 - and that one single character can then train all the useful alt skills (trade, production, research) that the alts would usually get trained for.
That means...more trade orders possible - more research agents - more research jobs - more production jobs - more contracts....instead of having the same number of these jobs available on 3 different characters of an account - you have them all available on your ONE MAIN character - no more stupid logging in of alts...
I hope you understood it now?

Oh, so you have 3 characters, but they all have the same trained skills as each other?

Hrm...no...
This merging of slots will be an OPTION.
You have one ONE character which can train the beneficial skills of trading/research alts without having to log these in...

Do you mean...
The option of being able to manage the skill queue of your other 2 characters from whichever character you have logged in?

Or, do you mean, one character which can train the skills which your other characters can?
But, er, any character can train any skill already.

*facepalms again* Is my explanation really that bad?
ONE account with ONE character - ONE character which can train all trade skills, all production skills and science skills THREE times - THREE skill trees for those skills.
The same number of any jobs for the account - but not anymore 3 characters but just ONE character with a big neural upgrade implant.

Ok so for example maxed trained Mass Production and Advanced Mass Production yields 11 jobs you can run at the same time. You are proposing that you can train those skills to max 3 times allowing 1 person to use 33 slots at once? Same with contracts and trade orders, so you have 33 contracts and massive numbers of market orders on 1 character, correct? -------------------------------------------------- Everyone is born right handed, only the great over come it. |

Oh.
But. Everything would be buggered.
Training BS +5 3 times would be completely unfair: You'd have 75% bonuses instead of 25%.
Training broker relations +5 3 times would give you a total of -150% on the broker fees you pay on the market. This would mean you MAKE money by listing orders, without even buying/selling anything.
All industry would also be buggered, for similar reasons... the chance mechanics of invention would be all out of kilter.... etc.
It would be impossible to compete in any part of the game if you didn't definately use this "option", because in all 3 places, combat, industry and market, those with triple-characters would massively outperform those with double or single characters.

Your using ambiguous terms like "merge" and expecting everyone to understand what you mean. You have to be a lot more detailed.
How would you control three characters with 1 client? How would you fly three ships with 1 client? Unless they built a tabbed client, which wouldn't be very helpful because sometimes you need to see what is happening on all clients at once.
Having three alts under 1 account isn't very useful because only one character can train at once. Its better to pay for multiple accounts and only have 1 character in each account where each can be training their specializations in parallel with each other.
If you made the mistake of training multiple characters under 1 account and now what to merge the skill points together, then I would say no. Should of done it the right way to start off with, or transfer your characters to separate accounts.

Go trolling in general discussion please.
For the people that understood my suggestion - this is meant to be OPTIONAL - so if you want 3 characters on an account to do trading in different hubs, I don't suggest that you can't anymore ;)

We're not trolling, dude, we're trying to get our head around an idea which has only had a very little amount of ambiguous explanation... anyway, now that we've cleared up what you mean:
You still haven't explained what is suppose to happen when you've trained Broker Relations and Accounting to 15.
Or Material Efficiency.
Or how Invention works when you've got some engineering skill trained to 15.
etc.

You don't train them to 15, they do not stack - you have to train them to 5 for the second tree skill to have the advantages for the additonal jobs of the second skill tree and you have to train them to 5 for the third skill tree to have the advantages for the jobs of the third skill tree.
Skills like Engineering, Spaceship command, Gunnery, etc. won't be available - only trade, industry and science skills which many people usually use an alt for.

I see.
So, massive drawbacks, but a little bit of extra convenience if you don't mind only having one character?
It could work.
I'm not sure how many people would want to go for it though. I wouldn't but mainly because I use all my alts, and like them to be in different places... etc. I don't see any problem with this being an availalbe option, however.
I would say its better to have the chracters spread out though, as then your trade alts can buy and sell in their own location, and provide convenient price checking etc. Yes, logging in and out is sodding annoying, but I prefer it to autopiloting many many jumps.

Yes! You got the idea \o/ *happy for a second*
I'd go for it on my main account for sure...and I'm pretty sure quite a few people would as well... And as for trading and price checks...it's meant to be an option - not a must - so you can keep all your alts if you want to...

It would be simpler just to add another skill to increase the amount of jobs you can do. What you're proposing over complicates things.

Adding new slots with new skills would make CCP lose income cause a lot less alts would be used....my suggestion keeps CCP income steady while making the game experience much nicer...

Hm, I'm not sure if this is a good idea. It would be quite bad for the implants market, just to mention one implication.
