So i ahve heard rumors that the Tengu is capable of soloing lvl 5 missions with ease and some decent skills as a pilot. Can anyone confirm or deny this? If so can u sharea setup that will allow me to solo lvl 5 missions. I have never tried them but have been warned off against trying it in my nighthawk. Thanks for the help.

I read up on Level V's on Eve Wiki, and it said you need 2000 DPS Passive Tank Buffer due to Energy Neut Towers. To get this on the Tengu with all Level V's...

Edited by: Pottsey on 25/04/2009 11:45:55 What if you had a Vulture at a Pos boosting shield HP regen and resistance? Could you not fit perhaps 1or 2 damage mods. Or would that not count as solo? Just a cheap alt in a frig for the hitpoint boost might help. ______ How to Passive Shield Tank T2

That rumours were probably spread by sellers who still want to get more than 1 billion for their Tengus. Probably it can be done, but it won't be very effective compared to the Nighthawk. I did quite a lot of level 5 missions solo in a Nighthawk, with pithum a-type resistance amps. I don't think the tengu can passive-tank better than a nighthawk, at least not if it does comparable damage. The NH does 450-650 dps (depends on mission and how many ballistic controls it allows to fit), a Tengu that can tank a level 5 can't do that, at least not that i know, if someone shows me a tengu setup that can tank like a nighthawk while dealing more damage i'll be happy to buy it.

If its a lvl 5 faction then 15 million or more in tags and 65k in LP and about 10 million in reward.
If its a pirate lvl 5 then 25 million in bounty and 65k in LP and 10 million in reward.
But I have always had a hard time transforming my LP into isk.

Lp rewards depend on skills and system sec, I get 83k Lp's with both relevant skills at lvl v in a 0.2 system, Mordus Headhunters yields around 40 mill in bounties and over 9k m3 in loot but it is the exception. The Commander has a 5 mill bounty and drops a Hardwiring worth from 25 to 175 mill.

How long does it take to complete your average level 5 with one of these fits?
Is it possible to set up a rattlesnake that has similar passive-tanking effectiveness?

The Tengu can be about as good as the Nighthawk if you don't use a terribad fit.

2329 tank against Gurista and 490 dps at 110 km. The smaller sig also makes your tank much higher effectively.

Has a bigger ass (sig size) -> gets hit harder -> needs an exponentially bigger tank. Most likely no or only with an absurdly expensive setup.

It is possible, but you need to pimp it and in the end, it ends up with less effective DPS than a Nighthawk for a much higher price.
Ships to solo level 5s with:
Ishtar - if not heavily pimped, only possible against rats that deal kinetic and/or thermal damage. Angels, however, eat it alive, due to varying damage types and constant webbing. It's the fastest though, as sentries are far more effective than missiles due to defenders. Incredibly easy against Guristas, you only need a T2 fit and even then, there's enough tank for a sentry rig.
Nighthawk - I believe it can be done for most missions, but price and DPS will vary accordingly. Defenders greatly reduce its DPS, but that doesn't really matter because Level 5 missions are to Level 4s what Level 4s are to Level 3s.
Vulture - easiest to fit/tank, but DPS is extremely low. Not recommended at all.
A drake (even T2 fit) can get enough tank for level 5s too, but DPS is pretty low. I've used an alt in one to tank while I was in a gank battleship killing the stuff.

Somethings crazy that I just noticed. Maybe someone can confirm this. I was just messing around with the newest version of EFT and experimented with the second poster's Tengu fit. On chance I removed the defense subsystem to try another while leaving a couple of T2 large shield extenders in place. I briefly looked over and noticed my sustained defense efficiency jumped to 2229 hp/s with 0 across the board resists. I hovered my cursor over the shield hit points and saw the following:
Shield capacity: 6687.5 hp Recharge time: 7.5 sec
Leaving the defense module out, I proceeded to fit 2 more large extenders:
Shield capacity: 13250 hp Recharge time: 7.5 sec
= 4417 sustained defense efficiency
Added 3 core defense field purger 2's:
Shield capacity: 13250 hp Recharge time: 3.2 sec
= 10469 sustained defense efficiency
Added 4 T2 shield power relays:
Shield capacity: 13250 hp Recharge time: 1.1 sec
= 31380 sustained defense efficiency
Please tell me I'm missing something here? I have to be. Like maybe you have to fit a defensive subsystem or the ship can't be used?
* Just returned after being out of the game for over a year and a half so excuse me if I am.

Usually around 1 hour, some are 1,5 hour, others 30-40 minutes. Just completed a lvl 5 against sanshas (cleaning house or whatever the name was) in 43 minutes solo with a nighthawk with 3 CN ballistic controls. That's 7 mil in direct rewards, ~20mil bounties and ~70k loyalty points, which is not bad for 43 minutes playtime i think.
I don't think a rattlesnake will work. You need to have a passive tank because of the neut towers, battleships have a bad shield regeneration and not the resists of a t2 ship. Also speed is quite important and the ability to kill tacklers fast if needed. Nighthawk is quite ok with it's precision bonus on heavy missiles, a rattlesnake won't do well and will have a worse dps in general (if used with cruise missiles, torps won't work with most lvl 5 because you need to get range). For doing level 5 solo you need a tank and a weapon system that works well without cap and is able to do high dps + precise dps if needed.
