Upsides:
Good T1 options in every size bracket (compare them to Amarr say). Cheap gank is nice.
Partly selectable type damage.
Drones add versatility. Big drone bays add even more versatility.
Blasters are, despite the complaining, pretty good at putting the hurt on people. Yes it's at less range than other guns. Yes it's often at ranges where they have trouble tracking. Despite that, if you're hitting people, it's going to sting.
Hawt T2 frigates.
Good for PvE and PvP.

Incredible damage, very generous slot layouts, IMO more versatile than minmatar. (Yeah Minmatar might have a lot of ships that are very different from one another, but how many of those ships work without a cookie-cutter setup that everyone else is also using. Not as many as Gallente have that is for sure)

Upside: best newbie pirate ship (Thorax), Dominix, Ishkur.
That's about it. Gallente are by far the weakest of the races.

Lol? Caldari are much worse for PVP with the exception of Falcon, Rokh, Cerberus, Drake.

Except for the Onyx, Eagle, Vulture, Crow, Harpy, Raven, Chimera/Wyvern. No, no good ships for PvP there...
PS: even your four is more than Gallente have. Dominix, Ishkur, maybe the Ishtar.

thorax - cheap gank
brutix - cheap gank +some
astarte - dps anyone?
megathron - tracking bonus and a battleship that can pull over 1000dps
dominix - so many uses for this it aint funny, and not very fun to fight
hyperion - massive tank and awesome slot layout
theres six reasons off the top of my head
