What's your favorite drone grouping that you use? The staple of lvl4 missioning seems to be HH2s yet they suck at killing elite frigs. Using hobs is fine. The problem I have is that I use a gunboat for missions and while my Nightmare rocks, every once in a while I get into missions where NPCs like to come in close. Like Angels WC or EA. Below 7-8km tracking BSes does become a problem. Considering that I have to carry a full complement of 5 HH2s and 5 Hobs...I got no space for a webber drones.
What's your favorite setup? How does 4 HH2/1 Webber drone group deal with the elite 30k frigs?

I spend most of my time in Minmatar space, so my favourites are Warrior II + Valkyrie IIs. In my Drake just the Warriors, in the Raven take both. In the Dominix, both sets plus some Bouncer IIs (they're the sentry drones).

Use light drones for anti-frigate work, especially the elite frigates which will be Interceptor or AF equivalents - better tanks, faster speeds, making medium drones nigh useless since they can't move and track fast enough.

My favourite setup is 5 rat-specific light drones in the Drake, 5 rat-specific sentry drones in the Dominix. Having two people in missions means you can forget about trying to deal damage to all ship sizes at all ranges. Have one specialise in smalls (frigates, destroyers, cruisers), the other specialise in bigs (battlecruisers, battleships).
It's an MMO, go make some friends :) Missions go amazingly fast if the guy specialising in smalls can kill stuff, get out and return with a salvager before you've finished killing the big stuff.

5x hammerhead, 5x hobgob on the paladin/golem/nightmare
5x warden II, 5x Garde II, 5x vespa II, 5x hobgobs in the ishtar. (swap for bouncers/beserkers/warriors/valks for anti min/angel missions)

Hammer IIs and Hob IIs. Hobs for all small things as they're fast and evil things. And Hammers for all the rest. I really need to try sentries - got the skills but never actually tried them
IMHO rat specific drones kinda make sense in theory but do less damage than Hammers or (Hobs) even to rats they supposed to be specific to.

5 lights + as much sentries as bandwidth allows. Sentries just compliment the main long range guns the best.

Since I'm running in a Raven, I've only got 75 m3 of space. So, I carry a full flight of lights and a full flight of medium drones. I use Hobgoblin IIs and Hammerhead IIs against foes weak to EM or thermal damage, Hornet II and Vespa II against kinetic vulnerable foes, and Warrior II + Valkyrie II against explosive-weak foes. ______________________________________________________ Isn't it enough to know that I ruined a pony making a gift for you? |

Your opinion is wrong
Against stuff that's weak to EM or thermal, use thermal drones. For anything else, rat-specific drones are in fact more damaging. Also, thermals are the slowest and worst tracking combat drones so the difference isn't just in the damage!
But, yeah. These forums seriously need some indicator that the post has ended and the sig has started. |

Also, for the record, webbing drones suck in every conceivable way. You're better off forgetting that they exist. ——— “If you're not willing to fight for what you have in ≡v≡… you don't deserve it, and you will lose it.” — Karath Piki |

I use 'Augmented' Hobs on my Drake/NH. They do both thermal and kinetic damage, and they do slightly more damage than T2 Hobs. No issues with taking out even elite rat frigs and cruisers (those pesky elite Guristas jammers go down fast).

My Domi uses 5X HVY II, 5X Light II, and 5X Sentinals with back ups and some rep drones to repair them as needed.

You shouldn't… the split damage makes them always underperform compared to the correct T2 counterpart for the target in question. In some (very) rare cases, the 'augmented' drones do less than half a percent more damage… ——— “If you're not willing to fight for what you have in ≡v≡… you don't deserve it, and you will lose it.” — Karath Piki |

ALWAYS go NPC specific for damage.
I find you get "weirdness" (tracking issues) depending on which drones you use (H/M/S) my general rules is to use lights against frigates/cruisers but no web and meds against everything else.
as to my drone of choice. . . . . Warrior II's and Valk II's but thats because im a purist :)

I'm fond of the ones with guns.
For more enjoyment and greater efficiency, consumption is being standardized.

So not even gunship runners use web drones for those upclose and personal NPCs?

Meh, they're fine for me. I don't rely on drone damage all that much in my BC for missions, so they're more of a special ops addition (like I said, mostly anti-jammer role). I agree with you that specific damage would be best, but I don't care about that for my drones.

I use 5x hammerhead II and 5x hobgoblin II on my Nightmare. Use the light drones for frigs.
