My posts are either short or long. You're just not looking at the right threads. They're probably short here because I'm not busy explaining how disgustingly wrong somebody is. In lieu of alliance stuff, you should check out game development forums for the same kind of beatdown.

My question: what are your views on the CSM and its worth to the game, and would you consider running yourself?
/Ben
I've had a while to look at the CSM and think about it. My thoughts:
For CCP it's a great thing. It creates a middleman that is at least a viable alternative when it comes to assigning blame. It's also a constant stream of PR and media coverage on MMO sites that doesn't require any development effort, and usually makes the game look good. The only downside is the overhead of managing the whole thing, and pocket cash they could've wasted on buying more exotic fish.
For the players it's just another political arena. Right now it serves the function of event, experiment, or distraction as much as it does anything productive. The same exact stuff happens at the CSM which you see in literally every forum thread discussing the game. Giving it elevated importance doesn't automatically improve the nature of player discussions.
CCP will also tell you the CSM has a big impact but I guarantee they're looking at the forums, or simply going with their internal decisions to an equal degree. In the end, CCP employees only have so much time to spend on feedback and the introduction of the CSM doesn't make the timeshare any bigger.
The upside is that if you have strong vision and focus, a bigger part of the pie is telling CCP how it needs to be done. There's a downside with that upside, and it's the practicality of getting an entire council of team players where everyone knows what needs to be done, agrees on it, and then goes above and beyond to do it.
In other words, when a single "party" manages to take over the CSM and create a big movement, it can result in players having a level of power they've not had in ages. Such a party would need to choose its members and prepare a platform and campaigning strategy well in advance. And even then, all it does is fulfill the 'power potential' of the CSM.
Organization doesn't guarantee those players aren't simply meticulous morons, or that CCP won't just ignore half of the finely-crafted suggestions - thereby negating the whole effort.
As for me, I'm not running because I'm not a citizen of any country. Makes it a ***** to travel :V

The established powers weren't too thrilled with the idea, and tried to delay me at every turn.
