Ok, I've recently come back to the game after a few months lay off and have been reading up on the changes to the recent major patch of Apocrypha, especially the changes to Stealth Bombers - something I used a long time ago.
I've been looking at some of the newer load outs for the Manti and am a little confused that people seem to be using sencer damps on em, with the intention of keeping a target at range and fitting them with torps. Some load outs are even attempting to tank the ship - both armour and shield - and all of this has me confused.
When I used to use em it was a case of de-cloak, set off senser mod, lock, fire salvo and then re-cloak before they can lock you - rinse and repeat until the target is either dead or you get bored (took a while to take out a big ship this way).
Now, I've never used torps before or bombs, but has the use of the SB changed that much? I have always thought that the armour and shields on a SB were so paper thin that a tank was a waste of mods and trying to go toe to toe with another ship was suicide?
I really like the idea that I can now put a covert cloak on a SB and am looking at piloting one again, so any thoughts welcome.

Its not a solo ship anymore. the respec has dedicated it to a life of applying butt pain to large ships. BC and BS sized ships. The massive (for torps) range that the ship operates at means that the best chance for survival is to sensor damp the enemy so they cant lock you, while you send a couple of vollies of torps at them, along with your SB gang mates. If every SB in the wing carries a couple of Damps and a TP, they can be very effective.
A Recon / SB roaming team could be a BS's worst nightmare, but a solo SB cant really do much now.

Stealth bombers are pretty evil now and you don't even need recons to lock down the target, a couple of Taranisses is equally sufficient

Many thanx mish, great response
I think I'll keep the ishtar and mega in mothballs for a bit longer and play around in a manti again for a while. I think it might be more fun to fly than the other two - just as soon as I get the torp skill as never needed it before
