I haven't been playing for long, but I was beginning to wonder how my first ship would go down. A blaze of glory perhaps. Certainly it would be something like a swarm of drones, or an overwhelming number of ships. I Purchased a destroyer(Mostly cause it looks cool) and did my best to fit it, thankfully I had a friend to help me. I wanted to be fast and get up close and blast enemies with close range guns. It was going fairly well, and surprisingly a lot of damn fun to shoot flashing and rotating targeting brackets in space... One of my favorite weapons so far was the smart-bomb, too bad I was too scared to use it anywhere due to the 3 km range. I'd only used it once at that point, and it looked damn cool.
So me and my friend were doing missions together, flying around and blowing **** up. At the end of one mission we start to blow up some landing platform on an asteroid. I start orbiting the thing and blasting it, when I decide 'hey lets try out those smart-bombs some more' I let them rip. So satisfying.
It's at this point I spot my friend, turns out he is a little close to me. I say "Sorry I guess I was a little close to you there" He says "Don't worry about it" About two seconds after that my screen shakes and my shields, armour, and 3/4 of my hull are gone. I of course have no idea what is going on. I hardly have time to think that I should leave when I am blown from the sky(er space...)
I guess Concord didn't care for my smart-bombs so much. Though they don't seem to have a problem with people stealing Ore from my friends canister, thats cool, but accidentally hitting a fleet member with a smart-bomb... no mercy.
In the end its was a pretty fun death, or ship blowing up rather. One of the most enjoyable deaths I've ever had early in a game.

Edited by: Neo Omni on 29/04/2009 18:23:30 Yes, EVE is full of weird inconsistencies.
Corp mates can actually kill each other without Concord intervention.
I'm not sure if the same applies when you make a fleet.
(I like the smart bomb too)

You have yet to experience a real death, young pod pilot.

I suppose not, which is good :) I hope my real death is considerably more courageous, and not something that happens as the mission is 90% complete. Now I just have to rebuild my ship and be more careful with my bombs. I had thought then when in a fleet Concord wouldn't come after me if I hit a friendly. Guess I was wrong...

Yeah gotta be in corp (or a war dec target). Otherwise..well you see the results.
I'm actually shocked it took them 2 volleys.

I love smartbombs! I have a Condor with one and an energy vampire equipped, no other weapons. My favorite frigate. Orbit at 500m with the shield booster running continuously.
FYI: Concord also doesn't like you hitting jump gates and acceleration gates with the smartbomb.
My first death was after a long while too. Then I warped to 100 km on a Gurista hideout the Kestrel's ship's scanner found, and was vaporized before I could finish the phrase "oh sh.." Let's just say this was not the average hideout I was used to finding. I bought 5 Kestrels and all the fittings for them to replace the one I lost that day, and still have all them all. My second favorite frigate!

Ship loss != Death.
It's not a death till you've been podded.

Know what I hate? Dieing while being afk, and then finding out they bragged about it on the forums.

Whats the point of hating it, just induldge in the fact that you're important enough for someone to brag that they killed you while afk.

My first pod death was hilarious. It was me and 20 something other players. We were all under 6mil SP. Heck, that probably was our collective total, hahaha ...
Anyway, we're part of an alliance, and we're the noob corp. New players, untrustworthy players, inexperienced players. The mercenary outfit that dec'd our alliance got our industry and noob corp too. These guys spent several weeks just huddling in station, barely logging in. Finally, tired of it, I spent about 10 mil in isk and bought a bunch of starter frigates and T1 junk gear.
Handed them out, told everyone to fit web's and scrams and guns. And we went out hunting.
We had a couple good chases where it was our little fleet running away, but finally we caught one of the bastards solo. We'd warped to a planet and he came in right after, but he'd warped right in the middle of all these little frigs. We swarmed him, en-mass. 20 frigates running 500 m orbits, hahahah ... firing crappy t1 ammo at his T2 fit.
God, it was a blast. He couldn't get away, and it took bloody forever, but we got him in hull. All of a sudden his mate warps in with another BS. Warps right on the guy. Our attention is scrambled, and we know we can't kill the one before the other starts picking us off, so we change targets.
Dude had eight large smartbombs in his highslots. One run, and he took out every single one of our ships. On the second run, every pod. It was awesome!
He said he'd never had so many killmails at one time, hahahah ...

Edited by: P00P on 29/04/2009 20:53:18 My first memorable death was classic.
I spent days and days mining and saving enough to afford a battleship. I bought a BPC and built it myself, mined most of the mins for it. I put some low end guns and other trash loot on it, and drove my uncloned, uninsured butt to 0.0 for a little mining. I was in a BATTLESHIP! no one would dare attack me. I actually mined for about 15 minutes before I was podded.
Oh, how I cried to the guy who got me. And oh how he laughed.
Then I quit. Then I decided to read up a bit on the game. Then I came back. You can bet I'm insured/cloned now. I still suck though.
