This has probably been mentioned before, but since there is such an active buy/sell market of characters, have they thought of or shot down the idea of a name change feature? Or perhaps allow a one time name change when a character is transferred to another account? Unfortunately I'm one of those who a little over compulsive about names, and when I might be tempted to buy a character on the bazaar often skip it because of a terrible name. Just a thought.

I'm against any name changing because I believe it would give a leg up to scammers. Scamming is a perfectly 'acceptable' profession in Eve, but you should be tied to your name. There is no other method of identifying your character from everyone else.
I understand some people are a little finicky about their character's name. I myself in one, but I think it's just something we have to live with.

Yes, I thougt about that when I came up with the idea. That is a very good point. But if they charged for it, like the portrait swap or transfer, I think it would be less of a problem. Sure there are people who would pay to change their name multiple times, but I'm not sure there'd be enough to make it an issue. I could be wrong though.

If the 'block character' function could not be passed by via the name change, then this is an excellent idea.

I figured you'd thought of that, but jsut assumed your 'name compulsion' over ruled it. : )
If you could think of some applicable and apply-able method for ensuring that anyone could still easily look up a character's past name...
Perhaps a tab under 'show info' that would show all of a character's previous names? It lists previous corps, why not previous names? If this or something like it were the case I'd say maybe...
I think something involving the API key and a third party program is a little too round about...
The last issue that comes to mind is the 'who gives a ****?' aspect of it. No offense intended, but is the testing, coding and all the other work needed to implement this feature (keep in mind charging someone for this would involve messing with account servers, the web site, the game server and god knows what else) be worth it in terms of what the player population most wants?
My guess is, no, probably not.
