I¦m quite sure that out of the roughly 50k users, at least some of them are capable of creating new ship models, given they have some tools to do so.
I have no skills in that area, but as CCP has said for so long, they want the game to be player-controlled (so to speak), why not open up a competion where the players them self design new ships, complete with stats and req¦s, submit them, and whoever reviews them can redeem them usable or not, then, if usable, the player who created the new model, gets the first blueprint of the design.
Easy way of implementing new ship designs without much work from the devs.

Sure, let the artist draw themselves to complete domination.
On the other hand some new models would be nice, myself I'd like a ship shaped like a trilobite.

I Would still love to have a battleship in the shape of a Romulan Bird of Prey ! I am willing to buy some tools and spend 3 years on perfecting it . ( Or pay some dude a couple m isks to do it for me .

You've just put your finger on one of the problems: making sure player-contributed designs do not infringe on anyone's copyright.
But the idea is sound. Just set certain design standards, submission guidelines, etc., and this could be a great way to get some new ships, rather than simply re-painting existing ones.

Well...if I had my way I would scrap every non symmetrical ship in Eve...none of them look like feasible spaceships.
Though I would settle for a Stabber that didn't look like it should be arcing to the left all the time.

You are offcourse 100% right Elita . I think this could cause a unfortunate delay on this great idea. CCP would have to double check every design to make sure it is original. Damn. Maybe there would be a third party willing to check this, but at the end of the day it will be CCP thats going to get fried 'cause its on their game. I Don't know, too early in the morning for me...

Why Don't they? those ships are designed to fly in space and as such dont have to be areodynamic (symetrical), they can be any damn shape they want!
Besides, how many spaceships have you seen in your life (not counting the shuttle!!)

Yeah, I still like the shape of my Thorax. All I say is that it would be nice if you could make your own design and shape. Offcourse there would be limits on class/ size and they can make it a hectic skill to acquire in order to do that. It would add a nice personal touch to the game.
