So, I started watching BSG. I'm in the middle of the third season, and am enjoying it quite a bit.
One thing that's striking me, is that Colonel Tigh is becoming one of my favorite characters. During the resistance, the guy turned into a serious hard-ass, and now that he's back on ship, he's showing a lot more balls than he did in the first season.
I'm in the middle of episode 14, and Boomer's husband just jacked him in the jaw. Tigh, cool as a button, laughs at it, and then as he's walking away, tells the guy to get his hand checked.
This guy is gaining points in my book. A little bit of a bigot and a drunkard, but he seems to represent an old school of thought about what defines a 'man' over a 'guy'. He's got a little bit of that John Wayne flair I remember as a kid.
Hahaha ...

I'd heard all kinds of things about BSG, and while I admit that there is a certain element of 'soap opera' in it, it's turned out to be far more sci fi than I originally was lead to believe.
This is a damn good show, and I'm glad I saw it after the fact (so I could watch every session in order and timely), and not had to wait for every episode.

Waiting for the next episode is what makes watching a series great. A buildup of suspense. "OOO I wonder what happens next?" Then you get a week to ponder about it, rewatch the episode, and truly get the feel the writers intended.
On DVD, you can watch a cliffhanger and not bother thinking about how it might end, but just watch it. More mindless television.
Keep in mind that when I say all of that I only got into BSG when season 4.0 began to air - and it just cemented by beliefs that watching a series as it airs is a totally different experience than screaming through the DVD's.

One of the criteria I set for BSG was that Tigh should be at least as good a character as Garibaldi was in B5. Although I still find Tigh to act out-of-character sometimes, his resistance (the best storyline part of the whole series, imho) episodes and his "no-bull****" attitude have certainly won the series a lot of points.
Now, if someone would please make Baltar an at least semi-coherent and verisimile character.....

I actually like how ****ed up Baltar is. He's not all there, and when he does get his lucid moments nobody can track how fast his brain works. Dude's hated by everyone pretty equally, except for one cylon babe who's ALSO psychotic.
Baltar's character works for me, cause I've actually known a few people like him in real life. Some people have major problems, and the best they can do is try to live through them.
I'll tell you who I AM glad is gone ... Ellen Tigh and that female Admiral from the second season. I *really* disliked these characters, and am happy with the outcome of both, though Ellen redeemed herself a little by asking for the drink herself.

I just started watching BSG too, actually. I have made my way to S03E03 thus far.
I must admit that I find Tigh to be kinda weak compared to Adama. Adama is the quiet, unpredictable yet strong type.
On the other hand, Tigh is his sidekick, polar opposite. He's loudmouthed, predictable and weak.

Admiral Kane was a coward in my opinion due to her back story in Razor. If you havent seen Razor it offers a good backstory in regards to Kanes history and helps to explain why the Pegasus crew seemed so gun hoe when they were first introduced.
Ellan is more of a wild card that Tigh just cant seem to see for who she is. -------------------------------- To borrow a phrase:

Damn by the sounds of this I really have to check out Razor, I still haven't had chance to see it yet. Maybe I can find it on DVD somewhere. To be honest though, throughout the series I kept switching between liking and disliking Baltar, some traits of his character are excellent, but others not so much. He's a good character though for the series, liked or not.

I'm not to Razor yet. I've got the full seasons, the webisodes, and the movies, and am watching them in order (as in, I watched the resistance right after season two, and will be watching both the Razor webisodes and Razor to kick off season 4, then Face of the enemy exactly halfway through 4.
I tell you who's shocked me most out of the series so far ... the President. She's grown a bit inhumane as it's gone on.

Razor seems to take place when Athena was still treated as a prisoner. Sometime before New Caprica but after Lee assumes command of Peagasus.
And yes, Roslin does get really cold. I think her first cylon flushing really started her down that path and she seems to have no problems lieing to cylons, then trying to flush them out the air lock moments later. -------------------------------- To borrow a phrase:

Roslin and Adama both end up as monsters in my opinion. Tigh is badass but he's never two faced about it. Roslin and Adama both commit needless acts of brutality whilst claiming to maintain the moral high ground. In some senses they are worse than Baltar, who was simply very weak.
Did anyone else think the cylons went from badass to a bit... well ****.. as the show went on?

The Cylons tend to have more in common with Adama and Roslin than they'd care to admit, I think. Both treat their enemy as lesser beings that are better off exterminated.

Roslin was definitely a monster for a good chunk of the show, though I think she redeemed herself somewhat on the baseship. I will say though, I had a bad taste in my mouth in the episode where they had that bio weapon. Not even Adama had the stomach to use something like that and yet she was okay with it, though she got ****y when Adama wouldnt make the call until she acted as the president and ordered him to, meaning she didnt want to pull the trigger.
Adama, I can forgive him for his choices. He was a life long soldier, if there was no president he would have instituted martial law (assuming they left instead of fought) so he did what he felt he needed to to assure the survival of humanity, but not the government that humanity had. He was concerned with keeping the body, not the mind of humanity alive if you will. -------------------------------- To borrow a phrase:
