Hi! Ive played for about 2 weeks now and ive read (i think) All of the Newbie threads in order to get a hang of the game but i still need help
1. Mining in Jetcans : Ive had a few good rounds with this aswell as a few bad ones. I want to ask you What the hell are the janitorial guys? Are they real players or NPC or what. a few of em has taken my jetcans and when i asked why they said its a shipping hazard. Anyone have any bright ideas to help me with this because it seems its almost a 50% chance for me to get my ore stolen.
2. Attributes How much do attributes actually reduce the time of learning skills? Is there a handy formula somewhere?
3. Ships in the market Why is it that someday i can find a certain ship on the market and another day i cant ? If theres none on sale does the info on the ship dissapear or something, Coudnt find miningbarges yesterday
Well thats all i can think for now. Thankyou in advance

Those are players and if they take your ore you can shoot at them even in highsec. However they would then be able to shoot back so be carefull. The guy who said they're "a shipping hazard" was just being funny, that's a good one

Each skill has a number of points, and a primary and secondary attribute (for example Perception/Willpower for the skill Frigates) The formula is something like: points per minute = (primary attribute + secondary attribute / 2) * (1 + 0.02 * learning skill level)

Yes they don't appear in the list if the info disappears. Keep in mind that the list only shows sales in the region you're in, you can probably find what you're looking for in a market hub.

It's just (primary attribute + secondary attribute / 2) The effect of the Learning skill is already added to the attributes. Note that the character sheet ingame shows truncated attributes, while the skill training speed is determined by your actual (non-truncated) attributes.

Edited by: Gefjon Eclipse on 05/05/2009 09:50:14 I can answer the last one I think.
When you open the Market page, there is a tick-box at the bottom left corner 'show only available' or something like that. If you untick that you can see details of everything, but of course you might not be able to buy some things. Tick the box and it only shows items which are available to buy.
Both can be useful. If you want details of something you hope to train for then that is worthwhile even if none are on sale at present. However, if you actually need to buy an item, you need to know if it is on sale and where.
As for the other questions - I think the people who took your jetcans were just stealing them. The story about shipping hazards sounds like BS to me.
I know the attributes do help with reducing training times, but I don't have any details on that. There is a formula somewhere on this part of the forum, but not sure where.
Edit - it seems that some more knowledgeable people can type faster than me

1. People who steal your ore are definitely real players. We call them ore thieves or can flippers, depending on their goals. Ore thieves just steals your ore for profit. Can flippers will take your ore, put it in their own can and hope you take it back. If you do they will be able to shoot you.
The best way to avoid both types of people are to mine in a system where there aren't many people. They are usually too lazy to move very far (especially since they seldom need to).
2. Attributes are the only thing that matters when determining the time it takes to learn a certain skill. The formula is: Skill points per minute = Primary attribute + Secondary attribute / 2
Here it is as a picture. Every skill you learn will have a primary attribute (e.g. perception) and a secondary attribute (e.g. willpower). Just put them in the formula and you get the training speed.
3. All ships on the market are manufactured and sold by players. No ships are seeded by CCP. This means that if a certain ships isn't very popular it will be more difficult to get hold of. Though market hubs will usually have them all.
By the default the market window only shows ships and modules that are available in the station, system or region you are in (determined by the drop down menu to the left). There is a check box in the lower left corner that allows you to see all ships and modules that can be sold through the market (there are some things that can't be sold there though).

A market hub is a station in a system where most of the trading goes on. There is usually one or two in each empire region (there are market hubs in 0.0 as well but it gets complicated). Note that these hubs aren't created intentionally, they have just appeared.
The biggest market hub by far is Jita IV-4, which is located in The Forge (Caldari space). Other big hubs are Rens, Amarr and Oursulaert (in Minmatar, Amarr and Gallente space respectively). Smaller hubs are Hek, Tash-Murkon Prime, Dodixie etc...

WARNING!
This is what the theives want! You come back in your combat ship and then they kill your ship. Before aggressing the theives make sure you can replace your ship, because you will almost surely lose it and will incur little sympathy from your fellow players if you proceed to complain about losing it. <-------------------------------------------------> "Only two things are infinite, the universe and human stupidity, and I'm not sure about the former." -Albert Einstein |
