Has anyone else been getting a crackle sound when doing missions occasionally in the new expansion. It can be quite annoying in certain missions it will do it more than others.

Originally by: EvilSpork i get it but i have not been able to attribute it to any known cause.
The issue has been known by players since Apochribba release. CCP has presumably been aware of it as well (or they would be completely incompetent), they just didn't see fit to mention it as a known issue. If you look at the 9 page thread on first page in this forum section you can see numeous references to the issue mentioned by OP.

Well maybe if we make 100 threads that get to 10 pages about it they will consider fixing it.

My loudspeakers also 'crack' whenever I pass through an acceleration gate... Sometimes the game just crashes to desktop, but it is usually when warping to mission pocket.

Maybe CCP will just revert to the old sound I think everyone liked it a lot more.

Yeah I get it too when I pop a mission rat, but only if I'm zoomed decently far out. If I'm in somewhat close, it doesn't happen.

After more testing I seem to only have the problem if I am zoomed out from my ship to a certain amount but since it is silly to be zoomed all the way in this doesnt much help.

There is a known problem with certain motherboards and soundcards on certain games, I get crackle problems with eve, cod 5, and crysis warhead.
I dont know if this has anything todo with the problems you guys are having but it might be of some help.
Im using the Striker II extreme nforce motherboard with the fx soundcard and after doing some research found this thread:

I've bin having sound problems from the very first day I played the beta. cracking sounds that even go on when the sound is fully switch off. Unhealthy sounds that make my hairs on my back stand up. (clawing away on a school board)
With every big update I came back to Eve with the hope the have solved all the sounds issues. but so far the have not.
Over the years I've build several new PC's and all of them seem to have sound problems with in eve...
I kind of have given up on hoping there gonna fix it. |

Now it's my mic that do not work always ingame... it's a brand new mic, when I join audio on a channel option I can hear but I can't speak...
I got Socket Closed problem too
And the jump gate freeze !
And I can't play Eve now... the game is becoming too fun and exciting for me

Edited by: Shaun Klaroh on 22/05/2009 03:48:57 I initially had this issue myself with an X-Fi card, but reinstalling my audio drivers from scratched seemed to do the trick.
IE: Uninstalling via any installers, then deleting any files left behind (manually or by scan, though it seemed like Driver Sweeper didn't work properly on my Vista X86 box.)
After reinstalling everything from scratch (ensuring that Microsoft didn't install the audio card as a "High Definition Audio Device"), I've got clear audio everywhere.
DirectSound3D sources in other games are still a bit messed up, but that's Vista for you. -----

Edited by: Whitehound on 15/06/2009 22:09:51 When I am in space and have the map opened does one sound channel drop out. Once the map is closed does the stereo sound return, and together with a crackling noise.
I am thinking that the new sound system (is it a new sound system?) of EVE just very crudely concatenates the sounds of the game, resulting in crackling noises here and there. |

I just returned to the game after a hiatus, and I am reminded why I left in the first place : what is published as production code sucks most badly.
I find that the audio has severe problems now : pops, crackles, right side speaker drops out, uncontrolled audio stuttering of both voice and mouse clicks, no battle sounds from my guns/missiles... This is NOT occasional as the OP states, but it is a constant problem.
I shut off all the cool features of my SB X-fi card which resulted in only very minimal improvements. Besides, I shouldn't have to shut off audio features that work EVERYWHERE else.
Am I too hopeful that there is a fix on the horizon ? |

Some other info seems worth mentioning.
There was a similar problem in WoW, when the programmers tried to write audio handlers as part of their game code, rather than passing the audio processing tasks to the sound card. I stupid notion at best.
The main problem was a buffer size incompatibility between SB sound cards and WoW's internal audio buffer size, i.e., WoW had a 64 bit audio buffer when the sound card's buffer could only handle 16 bits at a time. This resulted in a huge number of retransmits (stuttering) and the fragmented sound bytes (when they managed to get processed) manifested as pops and crackles. The engineers at SB told the programmers at WoW exactly how to fix the problem. This was a hugely publicized issue, with a loud public outcry. In the end, the WoW programmers fixed it, but it still took them several months to implement the fix provided by the SB engineers.
So, I suspect this problem is in the game code, and it seems like there is more going on than buffer incompatibilities, i.e., right side speaker drop out, and the fact that the sound actually works best with the game window in the background. A fix ??? What a joke. I'll bet if I quit the game, came back in a year, this problem will still be here. |
