This is true. However, I believe with good organisation on the miner's behalf and maybe some help from tractor beams, it'd be possible to know where each of these grids are and where you need to go to get back on grid and close enough to get the next can.
So, assuming a grid size of 500km... if you were to find a belt 10000000km away from a station, you would only need to track about 20,000 of these grids.

As a realistic question in an unrealistic post, is it possible to tractor a can from one grid into the next? or does the can stay in the original grid?

The grid issue could be overcome in the same way as the station.
You simply place a hauler at each grid edge, when full, it crosses the grid and drops out cans again - returning to the original grid. This would only add a few seconds for each grid crossing, surely that can't add up to much.

this has to be a late April Fool's joke.
1. you can't control where your can jettisons.
2. the time required to transfer cans is ridiculous; 5000 jettisons and pickups?
3. server load for that many people in a single system. never mind your computer or internet connection.
4. again got to be a joke. funny, but not as funny as the long winded description of "flanking" i read on these boards. |

I tried this last night - 4 hours I was in local chat trying to get people to park up in a line from the roid to a station.
But I overlooked one obvious point in my planing.
The system didn't have a station

Probably CCP's financial department became very excited when they noticed the immense subscription and PLEX potential in chain mining and told Mitnal to push the idea and let it look as serious as possible.
