I believe wmv format was chosen because most OSes can play it out of the box. H.264, DIVX, XVID, etc., require codec installation on Win XP. WMV allows a person to just download and play.
Nope. WMV is not at all the most portable codec. Windows Media Player at least supports DivX (And therefore XviD) out of the box, and H.264 we needn't even consider since this is hardly rendered in high definition. I think this codec was only chosen because it's the way the editor works. I also think it could be rendered in a better quality. On another note, I do believe it is necessary to fix the lack of whitespace between signature and post.

Absolutely fantastic.
Story: funny, cynical, geeky and extremely heroic. Nice characterisation - reluctant heroes very sympathetic.
Technicalities: Very well put together, excellent editing, very nicely done sequences (space, groundside and interior). Excellent skins on the characters. Cool soundtrack, well used.
Viewing pleasure: Loved it. I'll watch this many times over.
Summary: Really excellent stuff guys - I'm amazed by what you've achieved.
I'd support the call for DivX (or Xvid) though!

Edited by: Sotha Sila on 28/05/2009 07:56:11 Better than great. I watched the first one and was worried the second one might not be as good because of the expectations but it was absolutely brilliant.
I laughed hard at the start during the part with opening and closing the doors on smith. Having a fleet fight was epic, the titan was unexpected and so absolutely awesome + it just felt like there was alot of storytelling going on. I had to check the time of the video several times to make sure it wasnt nearing the end and that there was more excellent story to come. And it didnt feel like a repeat of the first which i guess was my worry. I was sorta expecting to see something similar to the first but with stakes raised a little higher, a few more ships, a more unlikely victory and generally just samey samey. But it provided in a way i wasnt expecting.
It felt better than the first, the experience from doing the original shone through and you could see many things were done more expertly this time round. Like everyone else id love to see a clear skies 3, but i cant be happier knowing that you made the first, and put in all the effort to make a second. Its a delight to be able to view a continuation of the story.

First off, huge respect to the cast and crew who made Clear Skies I have watched both parts countless times, it's a work of art.
Just today I found something funny in youtube... looks like, and let me quote someone,

Amazing, truly amazing. You have done a great job on both. Loved the banter and the wit. Now that you are done you have asked for your life back...that is such a nice thought. Now back to reality...you have 7 days to make Clear Skies 3!
Kidding but would love to see more in the future.

Hate to burst your bubble, but I had to download the DivX codecs and install them to get Windows media player to play XViD content. Vista may have the codecs built in, XP does not.

Absolutely fantastic. A genius piece of story telling, machinima, action, and art. I've enjoyed these two films more than the entire Star Wars series. I thought that the bar was fixed for good on machinima, but you sir have blasted it into orbit. As a writer, as an EVE player, and as a fan of Science Fiction, I'd like to thank you for some of the best use of my minutes in all my life.

The Clear Skies films greatly exceed any expectations you can have about machinima. I feel the same way watching these as I do even my favorite sci-fi films. The emotional connection with the crew is very strong, and the story is incredibly engaging. I really look forward to seeing more in the future, its like a good TV series you cant get enough of.
