Howdy. I have a suggestion about the weapons group systems. I checked the threads and I don't think this has been brought up before. My idea is that when the same weapons are grouped together, instead of all firing at once there should be an option to have them stagger fire at equal intervals. So if I grouped six guns with a period of 6 seconds and used this mode, one gun would fire every one second. It would essentially act like one of its constituent weapons, with a firing rate divided by the number of weapons.
Pros:
- It looks way cooler to have one gun firing every second than a whole bunch every 8 seconds. Missiles, also, look better to have a stream of constant missiles zooming toward the target than one big clump of them. And, in the end, things looking badass make them more fun to use.
- Some ships have tank regens that can get back to full inside the interval of firing. This may help combat that, by keeping a constant workload for the regenerator.
Cons:
- Decreases alpha strike damage. This feature would mostly be useful in PvE rather than PvP, where you want the most damage as quickly as possible.
- Something would have to be worked out about the charges, because the first gun in the group would run out first, but I am sure this is a relatively minor programming point.

One purpose of weapon grouping was to reduce database calls by having the weapon group act like a single gun. Your staggering idea would defeat this purpose. -------- Ideas for: Mining

So? not everyone groups them anyway, and this is not an insane number of database calls, my drones don't fire at the same time and i call them back every time sleepers fire at them+ i repp them, that's 4 times more database calls then you get from the guns. It wouldn't be a bad idea, and btw, so guns look cooler when all fire at the same time. Hm... |

Probably. But it feels like it should work that way.

staggering would not increase server load. It would be a block of un-interruptable guns firing every (1) second(s) until at least one cycle went through on all of them.
This IS important for cap-weak gallente and Amarr ships, as firing staggered is better for cap stability than all-at-once.

Actually the Abaddon with 7 groups weapons firing at something beside it is awesome, reminds me of an old Fashioned broadside from Pirate Movies :P
