Oh, it's quite an amusing story, so I'll tell this one.
Once upon a time KIA was a pretty well respected pvp mercenary outfit run by an abrasive, difficult but relatively well respected chap. However Eddz made a succession of increasingly poor decisions about where to take his pilots and made a number of pretty disasterous political choices. Some laughable little escapades such as their all-too-brief Tortuga episode spring to mind.
After that Eddz started acting more and more erratically, and was eventually exposed as having lied about the majority of their supposed 'contracts' and was making up imaginary clients to try to give credibility to KIA. He was also doctoring killboards to make them appear more successful than they were. When he was found out he went ballistic on the forums, and started spewing out obscenities in a particularly memorable display of emorage.
Since then they're pretty much clung to coat tails everywhere they go.

KIA can post. Generally we wonÆt respond to alts, carebears, pets and other peons trying to make up for their inadequacies in game by poasting out of it. They do a good job of shooting themselves in the foot, and often in the face, 99% of the time without interference.
To the subject at hand.
Geminate is widely acknowledged as one of the poorer regions in the universe for ratting, moons and PVP. Its real usefulness is for capital ship production due to the proximity to Empire. A benefit IÆm sure not lost on some.
Period Basis is widely acknowledged as one of the richer regions in the universe for ratting, moons and PVP. More importantly for us, even after BoB have been purged from Querious there will still be a source of pew in the form of the nomadic PVP alliances that live out of NPC Stain (back in the Tortuga days it was Gob led Exceed, now you have Legiunea ROmana etc), and the more established Stain residents like Coven. All competent fighters.
A small-medium sized PVP focused alliance canÆt establish itself in two regions on opposite ends of the universe, while also fully supporting our allies on the Querious front of the Great War. The choice was pretty simple.

Isnt that the same way how you got hold of germinate? And seeing NC grew they needed their space back?
Meh, ill be waiting on Eddz' post saying "PB was nice, but our godknowshowmanyattempt to get a region under control was futile and we're going back to being MC 3.1"

KIA, MM and ZAF did the majority of the legwork in PB. MM is content with their holdings while ZAF and KIA needed a home (KIA was growing and Geminate is too small and not wealthy enough for them). So you could say that KIA (and ZAF) are getting paid for it. It's their space and their R64s. We will only maintain a minimal presence in PB. It's not our region, and our friends are free to do with it what they will.

They got Geminate because we smashed SMASHKILL. We had no territorial ambition for the area, KIA needed a home, and so they joined us in tearing down SMASHKILL space.
(Incidentally shortly after (or was it the tail end?) we wrecked SMASHKILL and left, BoB announced MAX which was a similar concept. Biggest difference is we were actually successful.)

KIA is a good group of people and a great group of PVPers as any of the collapsing Kenny entities can tell you. Also, WI. adores their space and took it on their own, without any joint ops from any alliance, and we took it for our own reasons.
We will also continue to enjoy Geminate while other alliances enjoy "their" npc space stations.
Again, God's Speed to Eddz and his brosefs.
