From the skill description: "5% reduction in shield upgrade power needs."
However, a fitted large shield extender still uses 400 powergrid, which is the stock requirement as seen on the market.

Fairly sure it effects capacitor and not powergrid. - - - - - - - Disclaimer I take no responsibility for the spelling or grammar usage in the above statement Nor do i agree with its ideas and or claims Or even acknowledge its existance. |

Well, from the first half of the skill description: "Skill at installing shield upgrades e.g. shield extenders and shield rechargers."
It explicitly names shield extenders which is the module I tested with. Shield extenders don't use any cap since they don't need to be activated, so I don't think the skill affects cap.
Anyway, something or another isn't right here. |

I tested it some ago and it is working on me.
I just prefer that all have good time here. |

Right. So it worked some time ago, but does it work today? Also, does it affect powergrid or capacitor usage? |

I think you will find the power it refers to is the CPU when u are fitting the Module.

It wasn't true a month ago when I trained it -- I suspect it isn't true today either. It affects the power grid use of a shield extender module. However, there is a small bug where after having trained the skill I had to relog after having fitted the module before it showed the new power grid needs. Perhaps I had to refit it too -- not sure, but it was a basic "update" kind of bug. ------------- You have to go out of your mind from time to time to stay sane. |

Edited by: Decairn on 06/09/2004 15:20:11 Well in an effort to reduce power grid usage on my Raven setup I initiated a level 3 to 4 train on Shield Upgrades before this thread got opened, it should be done in about 12 hours. I noted down my full raven stats and will check again after this skill train, so I'll let folks know then as to what the skill really does.

Its not bugged, i just tested it. You just need to log out then log back in to get it to display properly.

Well, something is bugged, and not just the display according to the tests I just did. I put together a setup which left me with 350 powergrid available. A stock large shield extender requires 400 powergrid, 320 with the shield upgrades skill at level 4 (which I have.)
Now, I was able to put the module on my ship, but I could not bring it online since I only had 350 powergrid available. Leaving everything as it was, with the module offline on the ship, I log off and back on. Voila, I can bring the large shield extender online, and it only uses 320 powergrid.
How annoying. |

If this happens again, try just removing the module, repackaging, and fitting it again. This normally works for me... Still annoying, but saves a relog at least.
Interesting times await... |

Thought I'd update from my prior comment. The skill works as described, there is the fitting and display bug though which the work around it posted for above. One tidbit, to be sure if your shield item will be affected with this skill check that is has "Shield Upgrade" skill as a requirement for use, not all shield items use the skill.
