Hi,
I'm currently running W7 RC1 and I was wondering if EVE would run properly on that. I already tried to launch it from my already installed directory but I got a DX9 error ( dx9???.dll missing or something ).
However it runs perfectly under Vista'd laptop.
W7's Dxdiag says DirectX 11.
Am I missing something ? ----------

If you're getting a dx9 error, download and install the latest version of dx9. W7 RC1 may not come with the latest version included, so you're probably missing some driver files. Certain versions of vista (OCM i believe?) have the same issue.
Just because you're running a DX10/11 capable system doesn't mean you don't still need dx9.

You can't install two versions of DirectX on any Windows system and Windows will not let you install lower version of DirectX than already is installed in the system. If he has DirectX 11, then he doesn't need DirectX 9, because DirectX is always backwards compatible.
I would try to do a clean install of Eve Online, it should run without any problems on default Win7 installation (with DX11).

Up to Directx 9.0c it was backwards compatible. You install directx 10 and 9 on vista and above. At least you have to do it anyway regardless of compatiblity. ------------------------------------- Read my bio ingame for tips on how to live and not be called nasty names by me. |

LOL - DirectX 9, 10 and 11 all use different filenames so you CAN pile all the lot onto 1 Windows install.
I am using W7 RC1 and had to install DX9 to get most games to work, all the OP has to do is browse to his eve - bin - directx folder and run the dxsetup within and the problem will be solved. --

It is, he needs to google "dx9 redist" and run that. Eve uses and looks for dx9 dlls and moans when it cant find them. Btw, downloading only those DLL's and putting them in the folder runs eve, but it crashes a lot.
Reinstalling eve would install dx9 as well, so what would you rather; a 50mb download or 2-3gb download? :) __________________

i am running win 7 rc1 too and i had no problems at all.
all i did was installing win 7 rc1 (which has directx 11 with it if dx diag is right), then i installed the windows 7 drivers for my graka (both nvidia and ati have drivers for win 7 rdy to download), then i installed eve and everything runs fine.
no problems with 2 clients on max gfx settings on both (eve premium).
maybe its not the directx stuff, but the drivers for you gfx card? i would try the win 7 drivers and see if that helps.

This.
The amount of confusion on this point is astounding. If the versions were mutually exclusive you'd have a truly hard time running any games not supporting dx10.

If you run the DX install from your eve directory something along the lines of c:\program files(x86)\CCP\eve\bin\directx. Eve should run fine for you. As this puts the Directx stuff back that eve complains about being missing

Did you need to adjust any settings post-patch? I can't alt tab anymore on two clients without one client hangaing.

If you receive Direct-X error, then go to the EVE directory, look for a directory called: \bin\DirectX\ Start the DXSETUP.exe and there you go. :)

Windows Vista and Windows 7 may or may not come with Direct X 9 installed, DX11 is NOT backwards compatable with DX9, it will require a seperate install if you are missing files.
