What is CCP doing when the server is down, and all the little people are running around screaming about the loss of thier ships.......
Is it stressful, or do you guys get some sick thrill from it?

No in all seriousness they are likely working fairly hard right now, but I doubt its a mad scene with people running all over the building screaming bloody murder.

i think only the server people are the ones running around trying to get it back online. i'm pretty sure a bunch of programmers, testers, artists, etc just continue working when TQ is down... some of the GM's might have to twiddle their thumbs though if they need TQ to be online for reading the logs, etc.

Remember, EVE is a sandbox and other MMOs are rock gardens.
Pretty rocks can be collected, but collecting sand is pointless.
Instead build a sandcastle and keep it from being knocked down. |

So now the server is up...... how many GM alts log in and doing what they were before the server went down before they open it up to public connections...... any bets?

They're most likely thinking to themselves that they do all this hard work while people, whom they will never ever have to see face to face, are constantly trashing their efforts to fix the server. While at the same time, locking threads due to the constant number of people e-crying that this is taking to long, even though most of those people whining have no idea what the hell is REALLY going on and wouldn't know how to fix a a flat tire if their life depended on it.
