I dont know if they have these things in other countries, but I plan on getting mine very soon(or atleast taking courses either online or otherwise to get mine).
So I have been researching it recently, one thing I began to find is alot of people proclaim it as being very easy, unfortunately they made the test much harder(according to some websites)in 2002 and I could not speak to anybody that had taken the new test yet.... So I am wondering how easy is it?
I know they are very generous when it comes to time, giving you more then a minute per question in most situations and its even multiple choice!(though I must admit I am horrible with algebra, and essays for that matter).
Oh and also, I was also wondering if taking the actual classes for a GED is necessary or if simply studying a book or even running straight in and taking it unprepared is worth doing.
Thanks in advance.

Why not just stay in school and get a real diploma?

GED
Unfortunately my parents enrolled me into school late and due to our moving around the country often I fell behind in highschool, instead of graduating which would take years it would be simpler to take a GED.

Read my post, I am currently 19 and entering 12th grade and do not feel like graduating at 20.

I took the California High School Profiency Exam in uhh, 1995 or 1996 I think. It was insanely easy. I really don't think any of the questions were anything I learned after 6th grade.
I didn't bother studying. But there are books and online practice tests. If you have any doubts, study up...
The difference between CHSPE and GED is the CHSPE can be taken at 16 years of age or second semester of sophomore year. I believe you still have to be 18 to take the GED.
Good luck, youngster. |

You have to be a minimum 16 to take the GED test, there is no class involved afaik, you simply register and show up on the dates they designate or at your leisure as some programs allow you up to 3 years from when you registered to finally test for it. So you can indeed use a book/intrawebs/etc. to study.
Graded on a scale of 200 to 800, you need atleast a 410 on each of the 5 exams and an overall avg. of atleast 450 from all 5 exams. I.E. you'll need to excel in something to bring that avg. up to 450.
The tests themselves I can say are a walk in the park, I did each in 20-45 minutes. Then again I was in the top 3 of my class before I ended up traveling a hell of a lot and never finished class.
For me it was a $100 registration fee, and if you fail a test (practically impossible) its $10 bucks to retake that exam, you allowed up to 3 times per calendar year, I.E. you can test for it 3 times in December, and when January rolls around, new calendar year and you can try again.
But really, you'll laugh at how ridiculously easy the exam is.
Writing - Mostly sentence corrections followed by a 2 page essay, no minimum on length. Social Studies - Alot of questions that relate to maps/essays on a political matter/or common things such as the US laws/admendments/bill of rights. Reading - Just read and answer the questions pertaining to the article. Math - They issue you a calculator, walk in the mark for me as math was always easy. Science - This I actually studied for as I didn't remember half life, mole formula's, etc. The science section is actually pretty nuts and I was always in honors/AP variations of science classes a YEAR ahead of me. But still BASIC science such as geology, chemistry foundational concepts, biology, etc. etc. like if you stayed awake the first two days of those classes in high school you'll be good to go.
Again, it might vary state to state so I recommend looking up online through your local testing area (most likely a community college) and getting in contact with them with any questions you may have. |

I got a GED.
The only difficult thing about that exam is how they ask the questions. Make sure your read em over twice. |

Comments like these **** me off. I have a GED as well and placed quite high in their exams (I am in the top 3% of the country as far as science is concerned) and in many other fields. Why did I get a GED? Because of a learning disability that caused many schools gave up on me. You know how much bearing a high school deploma has on many colleges these days? Zero. So long as you pass their placement tests they will seat you. Hell SAT's are worthless to them.
To the OP, I took the exams in 04. So long as you have studied the material you will be fine. |

My brother got his GED... not because of a learning disability or our parents moved a lot. He got it because he preferred staying home and getting high. He is dumb as a sack of rather unintelligent hammers.
If he can pass, anybody can pass.
OP, if you managed to type that by yourself and can tie your shoes, you can ace this test. Don't sweat it.

Yeah well sorry you have a learning disability and all but don't get all upity. It's a legitimate question when 90+% of the population get their diploma's through normal means.
As far as the OP is concerned I read your post and it said nothing about the fact that you're 19 going into the 12th grade. In fact it says absolutly nothing other than your thoughts and concerns over the GED test. If you're still looking for advise I'd say study for the test. Because worse case scenario if you study you'll still pass (Probably) and you'll have knowledge that will be useful later to you in life. If you don't there is a chance you'll fail and even if you pass you still miss out on a chance to study some basic everyday stuff.

I get "upity" with people who use blanket statements such as what you used. I had met quite a few people in the GED program who were simply given up by those who give out the so called "real diplomas". Yes the GED program also gives slackers and drop outs an opening to get something for whatever life may throw at them, but to suggest that the GED is in someway inferior to a highschool diploma in this day and age is wrong. -------------------------------- To borrow a phrase:

You know you may be right but I'm going to stick by 4 years of learning > GED.
