Is there any real punishment in Eve? I do not undersand the aspect of lawlessness when there is no law.
So if there is some type of punishment relating to game dynamics and mechanics what are they?

Edited by: Dirk Magnum on 21/05/2009 08:44:49 CONCORD, faction police, sentry/gate guns, global criminal countdown, and travel restrictions with low security standing are all good examples.
And of course there's player-based punishment for flagging yourself to people.

Ah come on, most of the time I see someone flagging themself to someone is when that person is in a barge and they make the mistake of attacking, Getting you ship popped by concord is a noob move, global criminal is then left to low sec where someone can shoot you anyway and low sec status can be fixed by ratting.
So the point again there is no real punishment. Now if anyone can shoot you anywhere for having a bounty on your head that would be punishment for criminal activity. Get out the glasses here comes the whine, I've provided the cheese.
Now I ask would that be fair if you've been bad? Or is being bad without real punishment too much of a perk. If so the bounty system would not be the worthless ball of *@&! that it is.

Is this one of those threads where someone asks a question but they already have all the answers and then whenever anybody else comes in and says something the person is like "no, no, you're wrong". Cuz if so I wash my hands of this nonsense.

Bounties still wouldnt work- anyone with a bounty could still collect it himself. The only way for bounties to work is for the death of the bountied character to be something less desirable then the isk he could get. Maybe a skill pt loss for a bountied person once hes podded. Or the bountied person loses an equal amount of isk.

That.
Or to feed the troll; the punishment in EVE is the time sink.
Most MMO's have no penalty for dying, EVE forces even the PvPers to carebear. Obviously there's workarounds, I'm doing a general statement here, for Joe the Schmoe that's the reality. Early MMO's were more on a hardcore setting, either you died and had to start over, or you lost xp/items on death. I.e. kids today are whiny slackers.
There we go, I managed to get a go at the younglings of today.. not appreciating the elderly.. everything was better before.. etc. */me pulls out cane and swings wildly* - I'd tell you why but then I'll have to kill you. And to kill you I'd have to log in. And to log in I'd have to stop browsing these forums. Both you and me knows that'll never happen. |

no sir you have provided the whine, but i did bring the cheese
Everyone is accused of whining when they speak out, or being a carebear ot sometimes even worse. Or is there an insult worse than the last. Not meaning I have a problem with carebears we need all types here in Eve. Without the CareBear Indy mining his day away ships may not be as plentiful. And the mission runner that constantly wants that new ship or the fittings or just needs a new one after being ganked. And the ever hated Prat that does the ganking, mission raiding can flipping an ambushing the amusingly referred to poor defenseless miner minding his own business slaving to get his next Plex. Every single player and player type contribute to the economy that makes Eve work. This is the greatest example of game mechanics I believe.
And if you really take a look at forum responses a large portion that make eve what it is somehow think that they are the only ones that deserve any respect for their opinions and everybody else is a whiner, carebear or an idiot. So if all of the lowly unworthy whiners carebears wimps and idiots left your game it would get alittle boring I think. So why not the suggestion to remove industry, mining, research, mission running and anything else that can never possibly be improved. Let CCP supply all of the ships and ammo and make it a big bash and the game everyone here loves to play so no one could ever whine again.
That only brings one question to mind, actually it would bring alot but one question Father Yarr
If you had a bounty on your head and it could be collected anywhere by say another player with high sec level after a cleaned up bounty system where they collect the bounty and you loose skill points with something that is a percentage of that bounty along with say a time period incresed training times related to their sec status. What would you do. This is just a suggested condition.
Now sincerely with all disrespect and name calling put aside and I ask the same of any one else that would respond. Would your Bio be as bold? Would you play the way you do? And if you wanted to know if there are other options that would work better would you be the whiner or carebear or just another idiot with a post not worth reading then?
That was the point that I was trying to express in the OP and the quoted post, not a whine. Just an objective question and statement that if there were real punishment would you play the way you do and would you as anyone wanting change is referred to..... whine?
