So many people I know who play this game have alts. I know one person who has over 10! Now CCP says the current population is about 300,000, but if that was divided by 3 (say they have multiple accounts for alts), that brings the population down to like 100k.
How big do you all thing the current EVE population is?

the eve population is composed of ~300'000 Paid Subscriptions.
that's 300'000 to 900'000 Characters currently in the database

I know a guy that has two WoW accounts, that must mean that there are only 5m people that play WoW... durrrrr

Yes, we all know that one account can have three characters; thank you new guy.
The OP meant *real* alts, as in, you have more than one account that you pay for.
I don't think they're as common as you'd think, but I would say dividing the player base by 1.5 ~ 1.7 would probably be accurate, for the number of actual individual humans that play.

I'd say less than you would think. Eve is perfectly playable with a single account at nearly all levels of content with just a friend or two to share the load of making isk and having a trusted wingmate to watch your back in pvp. Saying that I'm sure there are lots of exceptions(like me) where people love the game so much that they need multiple accounts just to be able to enjoy all the content eve provides in a reasonable timeframe.

Um lets see I know that I have 2 accounts and I am thinking of a 3rd just to ***** out a Charisma character for PVE rep gain. At least 4 others in my Corp have 2 accounts and that is out of about 8-10 people.
I would put multi-boxing at about 40-50% in EVE the fact that you can only train 1 character on an account at a time really forces multi accounts. This is good for CCP because it =s more money and inflated player numbers to trumpet.

I has 2 accounts, though I only actually started the second one for when I get banned but I got a working character on this account now that makes me the isks

SOme time ago CCP gave us some numbers regarding accounts, and if I remember correct, 20 % of eve population have 2 or more accopunts.
But 1 or more accounts. An account is an account. And I am sure that those who plays WoW or other online games all of em have 1 account only! Or...??

i had 6 accounts, sold the characters on 3, transferred one character over, was left with 2, now i have 4 again cause i bought some other characters.
I have 2 Capital Alts (I cant be assed to train for Carriers and Dreads on a single characetr), an Indy Alt (You gots to mkae ISK somehow), my PVP Main, and every account has a Cyno Alt (because... its just friggen necessary okay?)

Seriously, we've all noticed the spike in active users ever since Apoc came out. That may be because it's epic BUT my theory it's because of PLEX passes. Thousands of people now create and use extra characters because they have a crap load of isk and can buy 30 days for what 325m now?
For CCP, PLEX I don't think makes a difference right now in revenue if not a nice little boost. I'm concerned for the future of EVE where 1000 people controlling 32755(whatever) accounts make up 95% of the population.
