Edited by: Hermosa Diosas on 22/05/2009 10:26:59 As eve expands, over the past few years the amount of corps and alliances has been growing exponentially, and hard for people to recruit. I remember just offering 0.0 access was the thing, however things change. Mainly people join if you have a spot on the influence map, otherwise they dont want to know (yes its true!) I know from personal experience from growing a large corp when holding space, to losing it and lose members..So i think this little bit of market research would be beneficial to allow corps/alliances who are trying to recruit.
So it would be nice to hear from as many members as possible on this..Please dont troll..
What do you look for when choosing your corp or CEOs what do you look for when looking for an alliance? Is it activity, 0.0 space, memberbase or something else?, lets know your thoughts. So like..
Where do you look, do you use forums, recruitment channel etc, kb stats, reputation, etc

well, as i am a fairly new player ther is 2 things that is/was important to me. how many EU tz members the corp has and if it is a hisec corp. reason for the last part is that i dont feel ready for lowsec/0.0 for a loooong time both in the combat and mining part of the game.
however, the recruitment forum here is realy great and that is allso where i found an add for the corp im inn today.

Edited by: kleinstaff on 22/05/2009 11:24:09 What i m searching for, is a corp that cares for its members where the veteranplayers take care of the new players. Where you are welcome as a player and not just to add numbers, a corp that has a idea where it wants to be in a year time.

I recently used the recruitment forum successfully. I was contacted by dozens of corps. My advice is that when you do go looking, make sure that your interaction with the prospective corp is done via voice and not typing. Have a set of topics that are important to you ready at hand and be prepared to answer questions. The more the exchange is like a job interview, the better it will be for both parties. Your mileage may vary.

Edited by: Reven Cordelle on 22/05/2009 12:19:59 Ideally I would look for a corp that lets me sit around in mining ops in my Orca - and pays me for doing so.
It also needs a fancy name like my current, self-made corporation.
Oh, and it needs to remember that EVE is a GAME.

Well i generally go into a corp for the social aspects and maybe doing some MMO stuff like fleets, 0.0 isn't that speciel to me so yeah its mainly social for me since most of the time i like to be a lone gunman but like chattig to people while doing my thing. So any corp which lets you do this as well i would love. How did it go so wrong. |

I recently join a low-sec Corp and was interviewing with quite a few. Here are the primary things I was looking for:
1. Active Membership 2. Vent/TS and a forum 3. Top management have worked together for a while and are very well organized. 4. Top management has a solid business plan for members to have 1) fun and 2) make lots of iskies.
The corp I found has these exact criteria in abundance. And I have a lot of fun. All 4 need to be in play because if you have good management but not active members, you have no fun. Active members, but no leadership, nothing happens and everyone does their own thing.
Hope the post helped.

I look for the following:
The corp pays for drug addictions. The corp provides XXX holoreels and prostitutes. If the corp is in an alliance, the alliance must provide a brothel and a bar for every 5 jumps in 0.0 space. ____________________________________________________________

I've been with the same corp for almost three years, and I have no interest in looking for a new one. The things that brought me to this corp are what keeps me with this corp: Small and trustworthy group Access to ALL space and a truely nomadic approach / no home system or region Strong group/corp identity (how many corps out there "do a little of everything".. and are all the same?) I found a great corp, then I wandered for a while... and came back to my original corp.
But my experiences from wandering between corps taught me a few golden rules:
If a corp is desperate for you to join, don't join.
A laidback, easygoing corp is not always a good thing, they will probably get their asses kicked halfway across the galaxy without a dedicated, competent playerbase.
Make sure you ask about a corps' isk-buying philosophy. I joined a corp and moved to their space, only to hear two of the directors discussing buying isk over vent! My current corp kick people on suspicion of these activities, as a rule.
And of course, make absolutely sure that at least if they are not based in the same area as you, that most members like to do what you like to do! For example if you run missions in Heimatar, do not join a corp who live in Caldari space.
Honestly, I think that any corp that is easy to join, or doesn't require an API, isn't going to last long.
Be prepared to compromise, but only if you can see the prospective corp benefitting from your input, and growing as a result. I am currently trying to get my corp addicted to wormholes, and its going pretty well... now we just need enough members to make a wh-pos viable.

Edited by: Magnus Orin on 22/05/2009 17:47:34 Edited by: Magnus Orin on 22/05/2009 17:47:15 First of all, as I'm Canadian, I chose my corp based on the fact that not only is it primarily other Canadians, but mostly people who live in the same province as I do. This means we are almost all in the same timezone.
The second most important aspect to choosing a corp for me was play-style. I chose my corp because they focus on skirmish pvp. We generally fly fleets of 10-30 people in battlecruisers to frigates. We don't often fly caps, and almost never shoot POSes. We also roam for pvp every night of the week.
The third aspect, which is actually just a sub section of the second one, is where you are based out of in EVE. When I joined Northern Storm, we were a small group in Empire. I joined because our goal was to move into either FW or 0.0 as soon as we had a good group, and decent SP. We have since moved into npc 0.0 and we are having a blast pew pewing with a great alliance. ________

I look for no tax and being allowed to do what whatever I want with lots of easily accessible PvP whenever I want it.
PvP needs able friends to do anything at all and most of the decent pvp corps have taxes while telling me what I can and can't do while not giving any decent benefit back, just the chance to kill or die for them.
This initially led me to wardec corps, but I soon found wardecs were stupid, you were either in a massive strong corp where there's no action or killing people who can't put up a fight, or if you joined the smaller ones you were the one getting blobbed by loads of guys while your corpmates don't want to fight, because if they did they'd be one of the strong wardec corps that wouldn't get blobbed/picked on in the first place and you can't lead people if you're not a high level member of the corp and they don't want to know anyway.
I've been in pirate corps too but to be a successful member of your pirate gang you have to all fly big ships to tank gateguns and such and I get bored of that lack of variety in shiptypes.
I did the nullsec thing once and never again, huge blobs and capitals ship make for boring laggy fights, dumb politics, too much gate jump grind, the most drawn out and tedious fleet ops vailable.
Including any tedious and boring POS takedowns that might include.
Which led me to the militia.
I'm happiest as a free agent in the militia, and yes I am having lots of fun too.
It's now more fun than it's ever been as now a lot of people lost interest and left, we get great sized gangs and fights without all the lag.
Can walk into lowsec and get a fight straight away, whether it's pirate or wartarget and when I'm low on cash I can sit in highsec grinding level 4's for the easiest and safest sources of isk on tap anywhere in the game.
It's a lot more rewarding for me to die in the name of a faceless ideal of a faction that I can believe in, than some schmuch ceo that would just as soon shoot me if I didn't follow his orders properly.
If you're in the militia and you hate your FC it doesn't matter because you don't fight for them, you fight with them.

I do ALOT of recruiting for my corp and other corps that I'm connected to ...
That being said ... this is what people SHOULD be looking for in a corp.
1. Active Players in YOUR time zone.
- Log on during your game play time and ask around to recruiters HOW MANY players are in corp/alliance chat.
2. A corp/alliance that does what you want to do in-game.
- No use joining a pvp corp if you want to mine.
3. Does the corp/alliance operate where you do.
- Moving your stuff is a pain ... if you have to move ... do they have the logistics to help you?
4. A corp/alliance that has your range of expertise in-game.
- IE. you dont want to join a noob corp if you've been in game a few years ... UNLESS you want to help them learn the game.
5. NEVER pay to be in a corp -or- alliance UNLESS you're getting something you want in return.
- IE. goonswarm scam ... join our alliance only for 100 mil
6. WATCH the corp tax.
- Why make the CEO rich on your hard work ... UNLESS you're getting something in return
7. Does the corp/alliance treat this as a game -or- a second job.
- My experience is ... this is a game ... if you want to treat it as a second job ... you better pay me
=============
Recruiting
1. Recruitment Channel is a waste of time.
- Filled with spammers ... in 5 years I have yet to recruit anyone worth while from that channel
2. EVE-O forums.
- Best resource ... Direct people to your public channel .... Bump your thread weekly ... Bump it during the time zones you want people from ... change the title to 'trick' people into viewing it again ... follow its progress (ie how many views each week)
3. BattleClinic.com
- Same as Eve-O but not as much traffic
4. Spamming local.
5. Getting out in the area where you operate and chatting up the locals.
- ALWAYS works for me ... best way to get some LOYAL people.
6. Have a public channel for your corp.
- Make your members sit in it and greet people if they show up ... this helps when your not around to answer questions ... MOTD: list offices where they can apply ... list contacts in the corp ... maybe even the addy of your recruitment thread.
Hope this gives you some insight ...
PLEASE don't hesitate to contact me in-game if you need help recruiting ... The BEST asset you can have in-game is the contacts you make during it.
Thank-You,
The Pitboss (Space between The & Pitboss)
