I know this might seem like a stupid idea but what if u had controable starships? Like you control drones. They would cost as much as the ship itself but woul dbe cpu operated and under your control. For example you purchase four cpu ibis when u fly out of the station they follow u and when u warp they warp with u and if you are attacked they fight along side you as your wingman. Each ship does a fixed amout of dps depending on skills. They would also need fuel the bigger the ship the more fuel it uses and if its an ammo using ship u need to refill them with ammo and require bandwith to operate properly otherwise they would fly into space with no directin and attack teh nearest thing they see. There would also be unit cap for example you can only control 10 frigs/destroyers 6cruisers/bcs and 3 battleships at once. What do u think give me ur opinio,cheers

This sounds surprisingly similar to the concept of fighters.
Fighters already own enough.

Short answer: Eve is an MMORPG. With Spaceships.
You're talking about a 3-D RTS mate. Its a matter of game Genre.

I think it could be fun if they were part of a mission (and wouldnt/couldnt attack players), like a "take this fleet and attack convoy X".

You know, that idea isn't half bad, it'd be just like guild wars.
You only have a specific fleet to take in, so if your mates join you, no additional ships will be available for your support.
However this would make way too much lag, think of how many mish runners there are running mishes on a dailey basis, this would cripple the server.

Oh oh, and maybe we could have pets, and you'd have to feed them meat to keep them happy. Yeah that would be awesome.....  |
