I have a geforce 4 ti4200 64mb atm. Was gonna upgrade to a 9800 Pro 256mb ($200) or 9800 XT 256mb ($330)
Witch shoud I get?
And will It make eve run faster? I get like 10 fps beause of the stupid UI. if I put it on clean screen shot mode i get smoothe as butter but with stuff open I get like 10-15 fps just flying around.
Is xt better then pro?

Yes XT is better than pro with the radeon cards, the price of the XT you mentioned seems a bit high now radeon have just released the X800T, the radeon 9800 pro is now a very good buy for the price and power and you may want to check again in a month to see if the price drops a little more first. I cant really comment on the improvements as i dont know what spec your pc is but you should witness massive improvements over your old card. Good luck in making your choice

ATI Radeon 9800 Pro is a very old card, in terms of the amount of time it's been around, but it can still give you great performance on high-spec games like Doom/Far Cry.
It's probably the best card out there when it comes to cost versus performance.

what cpu do u have? sometimes u wont see much improvement since a lot of games (eve included) are cpu intensive. -------------------------------------------

I say stick with nVidia. Very soon the 6600 will hit the market and when it does you will see one of the best cost/performance cards around. In terms of power its comprable to the Raedon X600, but the benchmarks that are at hardocp.com show it being a doom3 killer if thats your game, if you think you just are gonna play EvE than i would just wait till the 6600 and the X600 are both availible on the market so the prices get competitive.
Also unless your running a 2.0GHz plus machine I would consider a whole comp upgrade, new mobo, cpu, memory, and perhaps a harddisk.

i would go with ati, the 6800 uses two molex connecters which is a bit much if you want to fit more devices in your pc, also something thats using that much power is going to generate a lot of heat regardless of how well its cooled.
I picked up this ace book today everyone rates it as a must buy for the budding military genius, tho ive decided to rename it as "Sun Tzu's art of the bloody obvious" |

Then go with the 6600 if heat is an issue, if your buying one of these cards you aren't going to be generating no heat, they are both going to run hot and you are going to need some advanced cooling. The bestway to measure the heat isn't by power consumption but by memory and core speed.
Check out hardocp.com for more comparisons between ati and nvidia cards.

I myself upgraded from a geforce ti4200 to a Radeon 9800 Pro 128mb sometime ago and have been well pleased with the performance increase and it is much more quite. If your system is ok you should see a nice increase in performance especially with newer games. If money is no object then look elseware for top of the range but for a more sensible price the 9800 pro is your card.

Its actuily a shuttle box pc, but I have 512 corsiar xms ram 333, 2.4 pentium and 80gb hd
was thinking of getting new ram too.. Dont know if my mobo can use 400 ram though
and yes I do play doom
dont think heat will be a problem... and if it is i could just take off side pannel (witch already has holes for air) and run a house fan on it lol
this thing runs bout 30c idle and 33-34 when playing doom 3
