Is there a list or database where one can record dishonored ransoms? A separate post to Crime & Punishment for every offender seems unwieldy.
I'd prefer to save others from sending ISK to Minuteman, but unless it can be looked up quickly it's not terribly useful.

doubt there are any lists.
the don't pay ransom part is partially true, I would recommend using your gut feeling if you do want to go into a ransom or not.
every corp has their own rules for engagement when it comes to this,

Might be easier if there was a list of pirates who actually honor them. You can put my corp down there. Sadly ***piwates destroy our good business, so not many people pay up nowadays -- -- -- -- -- -- -- The secret to success, whether it's women or money, is knowing when to quit. I don't think that is true. When dealing with one of the bigger and well known pirate corporations I think the victim would be best advised to pay a ransom to save some isk. Things might be different when dealing with solo pirates as they have no one to answer to, and no reputation to keep.
The likes of Neo Spartans, The United, BYDI, Bastards, etc. I know from experience can be trusted to honour ransoms as their reputation is worth far more than the killmail.

Seconding this.
Honoring Ransoms is something of a litmus test for whether a corp are practicing piracy or just KB padding.

If you are 100% sure they wont dishonour the ransom, you might consider paying the ransom (still the only time i was offered a ransom, it was from people i was reasonably sure they would honour it, but it was so ******edly high i instead decided to kill one of them before going down).
If you are not sure the one offering the ransom will honour it, dont pay it and take your loss.

Just wanted to point out that Yarrr honor ransom. All the wannabe "pirets" who dishonor ransoms are the reason I'm poor. Currently getting about 40% ransoms paid on ships and much worse on pods :(
I wish ransoms were like regular contracts with a history that could be looked up by the victim.

Hasn't happened to me yet but I don't pay ransom on my pod. Ransom my ship, not my pod. My implants are easily replaceable. My ship isn't. Lots of pirates don't bother ransoming anyway.
My rules are simple:
1. Is it a well-respected pirate corp with a responsible leadership? 2. Is the ransom reasonably priced? 3. Is my ship being ransomed?
If the answer to all these questions is 'Yes' then I pay up. If not, then fire away!

lol, how's that thread working out for you? I still get ransoms, and I've never honoured a single one. Not once has someone said to me, "Oh no you don't Sol'Kanar! I've seen you on the naughty list, so I'm not gonna pay!"
LOLNOUR (I maek new wordz!)

I'v never neen in a situation where I had my ship ransomed. I prefer to go down fighting and nobody ransomed the occasional hauler I'v had popped. My pod I will pay for since I dont have any LPs really to get them cheap with and I'm flashy so going to highsec is a bit annoying even with an alt.

If you define yourself as one who extorts money from people as a business practice, you are an extortionist. I guess that makes you a dorky subset of us rock star pirates. You guys are the pirates playing D&D on a Friday night. The rest of us are snorting coke off of hookers and breaking things that we don't own.

Hello, Janks here.
For the record, Janks often prefers to ask for ransoms and always will honor it simply because the "player donation" is the one form of income that doesn't flow through certain channels that subjects itself to the whimsy of the divorce settlements and will be divided up for alimoney and child support payments. Janks makes enough money through his various non-piratey investements to keep his 10+ bastardized kids well fed, shoed, de-liced, pantsed, occular-implanted, and with braces that the space-cow Justynka shouldn't be asking for more isk, which is honeslty going nowhere but to fatt up her backside as she sits around all day watching SpaceJudge Judy on the holovideo. Honestly, she needs to go out there and get a job, she's just as responsible for all those little Janks's's...
