I read somewhere that a 5% rof ship bonus is better than a 5% damage bonus. I don't quite understand how this works and if it is true. Can anyone help plz, thanks...

Edited by: Dust Puppy on 09/09/2004 17:41:31 Well damage over time is Damage/Time. So if you increase your damage by 5% your new dot is
dot_1 = 1.05 Damage/Time
But increasing your rof by 5% your Time reduces by 0.95% so your dot is
dot_2 = Damage/(0.95*Time) or 1.052....* Damage/Time
Edit: woops forgot to finish my point

Edited by: Shevar on 09/09/2004 17:32:52 I wouldnt see it either, basicly 5% rof bonus also means you gotta reload 5% faster. But it has some minor advantages (ie getting slightly more shots in compared to a dmg bonus).
/edit oh and what dustpuppy says is correct as well, but it doesnt pay off with taking reloading into account. -------- -The only real drug problem is scoring real good drugs

5% ROF Bonus increase your DOT by more than 5 percent but also increase your cap usage and you need more ammo and reload more often.

Nope just a lot of cap. Although a well skilled Amarr pilot could probably get his lasers on par with rail using guys (cap wise that is) __________ Capacitor research |

With better ROF you also get them "wrecking" shots more often (timewise).

on par i would be ok, but with skills lasers use less cap than rails. gallente or or minmatar dont get a 10% damage per level bonus, or any other 10% bonus per lvl, but amarr get 10% per lvl cap reduction. and rof bonus for the lucky armageddon pilot.

Caldari get 10% optimal range, osprey get's 20% more mining yield. It's a good thing actually as 5% bonus to optimal range is not the same as 5% bonus to damage or rof. Also lasers were kind of silly before the changed it. Even with good skills they still used more grid and cap than hybrids and did similar damage and had less range so why would any amarr use it? __________ Capacitor research |

Exactly why the 10% should be reduced to 5% again. Lasers are fine now, that change was put in when lasers sucked so at least they wouldnt suck so much again.

Which is especially painful on projectiles, which need to reload every time you look down at the UI.

I think you have to remember that more cap usage as a result of a higher ROF is definitely NOT a bad thing. If I can go in and unleash the full payload of what my ship can deal out in as short a time as possible (exposing me to less damage and less time spent in danger) then that's a good thing. It'll just require better power management on the player's behalf if shooting out so many shots so quickly will drain their cap too fast for them.

Lasers sucked mostly because they used so much cap. Other than that, their damage was already very heavy before the patch. You just couldn't run them.

It's this simple:
You will get more mileage out of a damage bonus for high RoF weapons, and more milage out of a RoF bonus for slow RoF weapons.
It's pretty simple math really. "I have never had so much fun playing a game that I have trouble staying awake playing!" |
