Is the risk proportional to the reward? Or do you get scanned down and harassed by pirates on a regular basis? I've run lots of level 1's and 2's low sec in an assault ship with no issues, but my level 4 agents are amamake. Seems like that's just asking for trouble. Or am I better off just working with a quality 15 high sec agent?

Only you can make that determination, because risk and reward are individual judgments. Will you get constantly scanned down and harassed by pirates? That depends on where you run missions. I'd say definitely 'Yes' if you choose Amamake. I'm sure you can find other losec systems with lots fewer people where you can run missions in relative peace.

Thanks for your input. I guess that makes brutor tribe a bit of a dead end. I did find running low sec missions in my assault ship fun, and occasionally exciting, in that you run into other people in a system, and its like two dogs unfamiliar with each other.. or they just lock you up and go to town. Or you them. Anyways, cheers!

just pop open the map, find a quiet bit of space where no one goes and see if they have agents, then systemically check if u can use that agent. or you could use the eve agent website? you get more LP and more isk per mission. and the rats give better loot, but you can make better isk in 0.0 though

Level V's often give out 50K or more LP
they really are not 'that' hard to do, but i wouldn't say you could solo em....
only had someone scan us down and bust in once time, they only brought 3 rokhs and quickly lost them....
LowSec missioning is fun, profitable, and often includes some bonus pvp :)

They do pay a bit better and give more LP, but you have to constantly check your directional scanner and be on the verge of running away.
In addition you cannot really use a pimp ship (pirates will travel far to get a Marauder kill mail) and thus the speed at which you complete missions is reduced.
I've run L4 missions for years in low-sec but stopped now since it's barely worth the bother.

I've answered this many times, the answer is yes, low sec lvl4's are worth it. But you have to be smart about it. I am a pirate, I take great joy in harassing missioners and collecting "protection" money. But I sometimes find myself a bit short on isk or feel like carebearing a little so I mission too. The key is to find a nice out of the way system that few if any pirates frequent and minimal random traffic. Amamake is no good, that system often has dozens of pirates and upwards of a hundred random people passing through (mostly militia). My mission spot is in a dead end system 15+ jumps deep into low sec. I rarely see local rise above 5 and basically everyone else there is on friendly terms with me since I will help them in chasing off any would be pirates.
An alternative route is to go into an actively player patrolled low sec system. There are some areas that corps and alliances have basically taken over to run missions and mine themselves. They will chase off pirates and if you are nice to them, they may set you to blue or atleast leave you alone if you don't get in their way. The only way to find either of these two types of low sec areas is to look. The map is a very helpful tool to start with but ultimately you have to go out there and try before you can be sure.
