I was PvPing this guy with my Rifter, and the fight went on for a full 10 minutes. I fought the guy until I ran out of ammo, and since he was no longer warp scrambling me I warped away. The moment I did this the guy I had been fighting with, and the people in local who had been watching the fight started moaning, groaning, and whining that I was total coward for running out of the fight. I explained to these morons that I was out of ammunition, and that I wasn't going to just sit there and let the other guy fire at me when I no longer had the ability to fire back, and that's when they all started calling me a coward. This did not make any sense too me.
They kept up their whining, and name calling until I was sick of it and flew back and stopped right in front of the guy I had been fighting, and just sat there and let the idiot shoot at me until I exploded. They all seemed very satisfied with this.
My question is if you run out of ammo in the middle of a PVP is it cowardice, or wrong to withdraw yourself from the fight? I personally think so, but apparently others seem to think not. What is the point of letting some clown shoot at you when you cannot shoot back?
Do tell.

The answer to your question is to fly with lasers and/or drones. - I'd tell you why but then I'll have to kill you. And to kill you I'd have to log in. And to log in I'd have to stop browsing these forums. Both you and me knows that'll never happen. |

This is not an 18th Century duel. You do not fire your available shots and then stand around until the opponent fires his.
There's nothing wrong with leaving a fight you can't win in Eve.

I was flying a Rifter, and you can't pack drones in a Rifter, and also lasers are totally worthless.

If you agreed to a 1 vs. 1, then yes - take your loss and write it down to experience. If not, then it's his fault for not keepin a scram on you. --------- War isn't the answer. However, the objective isn't to provide answers rather than eliminate the question. |

He warped scrammed me at the start, but the fighting had gone on so long that I think he ran out of juice to keep the scram up. We didn't have an agreement to 1v1, all he did was drop a can and I took it and the fight was on.

If it was a 1v1, meh, no advice there. I never take them as I don't believe they really exist/will end up as 1v1.
If it wasn't, then screw the peanut gallery. As an above poster said, this isn't a duel. Besides, if they are all THAT upset about it, you'll have all the pvp targets you want! :)

If his opponent can't be bothered to fit/use a scram/disrupt during a pvp encounter on a 1v1 then he does not get the kill. OP did the right thing warping away when out of ammo, and the wrong thing warping back to be killed, should brought more ammo on the return trip instead of just sitting there like a cyno alt.

Just as I thought. I did the wise thing by warping away. Next time if that happens I'll just tell them to go screw themselves.
Thanks!

You asked a stupid question, I answered in a stupid fashion.
If you have no ammo, and you fought for 10 minutes, why the hell would you be required to sit there and get killed? Why would he deserve the kill if he had no point on you? What kind of ****ty ships did you both fly if noone was dead after ten minutes? Not to mention that in EVE, hell, you can't even expect people to honour the duel. Even less expect them to stay around if they can bail. What would be wrong if you even fled if you were going to lose? I could keep asking stuff but this thread is so dumb on so many levels..
Your whole post smells troll, or both you and him were just too heavy on the tank while too light on the gank. You both should've agreed that it was a draw after a few mins and then go refit, or have some beer and talk about boobs. Way to waste the other 5-7 mins worth of ammo for no reason. - I'd tell you why but then I'll have to kill you. And to kill you I'd have to log in. And to log in I'd have to stop browsing these forums. Both you and me knows that'll never happen. |

No need for you to be all like that. I had a whole bunch of armor repair IIs and I suspect he had something like that too. I was well tanked, so I could sustain a fight with his class of ship I just didn't expect it to last so long. It seemed that neither of us had the advantage so thats why the fight lasted so long.
As far as your response to this post you seem all emotional, and angry when there is no reason for it. I really hate when ******s like yourself who don't, or can't understand something they immediately calls a person a troll like doing that somehow makes a threads subject go away. The events happened as I explained them and if you can't understand that then you have deep, personal issues that need to be addressed with a therapist or a 12 step group.
To everyone else who gave good advice, or their take on the events as I explained them thank you for your input!

There are somethings that must be concidered with your question.
1. How big is your ego? most likely if you are upset about this then it is pretty large but sadly in my opinion I would rather be *****ed at by cowards than waste good money on ammo for a fight that is going no where.
2. For more expensive ships and fights, which is better, losing 100m OR getting smack talked?
3. The people who were giving you **** were most likely just trying to bait you back and blow up your ship... They obviously succeeded.

Ahh nice.
I have done more successful PVP in a Rifter because of speed.
But I also have a sneaking suspicion that in the larger FW battles the ammo on hand for the enemy cost more than the Rifter and thus they may have simply decided I was not worth the cost of ammo.

Technically as long as you stick to rule 1 you can ignore rule 2.. That rules just there for people that like to bend rule 1..

Very good point. I'm still new to the whole PvP idea in eve. I had spent the all of 1 year training up my mains for industrial, mining, manufacturing, and trading activities in eve, and only now, within the past few months did I create alts for the soul purpose of PvP and Pirating. I'm still rather sketchy on some of the rules regarding this.
When I left the fight due to lack of ammo, and when all those guys started moaning about it, I thought I was breaking some huge eve, PVP rule or something, so that is why I came back and let that creep destroy me. I didn't want people to think I was a coward, but now thanks to you guys I know better and if the same situation happens again I will just pull my ship out, and live to fight another day.
So to answer your question yeah, ego was involved.

If the guy didn't have a point on you then I see no reason why you should stick around, and certainly not go back to get shot at (unless you reload your ammo first).
If no one was dead after 10 minutes in frigates if sounds like it was a stalemate anyway. You did right to leave a battle no one was going to win.
