I am Caldari, obviously, and I am about an hour away from jumping into my first Raven and the ability to use cruise missiles. This will be my mission boat at least for the immediate future. I have read that missiles are probably not the best set up for pvp. I am ready to cross train races, if needed, to get into a ship that is good enough to use in other aspects of Eve. What ship, (if any), BC, BS, HAC, etc... is the most versatile ship to use as an all around fighter? And one that does not cost close to a Billion isk. Don't really want to pvp in an overly expensive ship anyway as I expect to see open space a lot in my new pvp learning experiences. But after I learn to only get podded every so often, what will then be the best choice?

Dominix. Cheap, versatile in both PvE and PvP. Very easy skillpoint wise to get in one, and the droneskills isn't bad to have for other ships as well.
It's the swiss army knife of EVE. It has a few limitations, but there's no other ship that can play nearly as many roles as the Domi. Especially not when you look at price/sp requirements. - I'd tell you why but then I'll have to kill you. And to kill you I'd have to log in. And to log in I'd have to stop browsing these forums. Both you and me knows that'll never happen. |

Misanth speaks truth, apart from that I think that a Drake is pertty versatile. They can perform well in PVP if fit correctly and you might surpirse some people with it. But overall the Dominix is a great ship.

Definately, the Drake is fairly sp and wallet friendly as well. In the Drake case I'd definately make sure to get t2 HAM before HML tho. I'm not a fan of missiles in PvP (in fact I even fit my Heretics with lasers), but the HAM Drake is a bloody beast - while the HML Drake is very nice for PvE. - I'd tell you why but then I'll have to kill you. This, and it's especially effective when you're not sure which way that you want to go in terms of training. Maybe you love drones, maybe you love large guns, maybe you want to armor tank, maybe you want to shield tank, try out remote reps, blah blah blah. Pretty easy fitting reqs overall, and plenty of slots (particularly for cap). The only thing it's not so hot on is missiles (heh) but that's where you start to look at a ship like the Raven instead.

Vagabond is an excellent ship for both PvP and 0.0 ratting. One fitting will work in both situations. Jaguar is also a really solid PvP ship and is an excellent mission runner L1, L2 and L3 but needs a different fitting for the different roles.

Edited by: Joachim Kato on 27/05/2009 00:03:52 IMHO The nighthawk is what you are looking for. I really love the ****e out of that ship. It's amazing for pve and pvp. You can get a MASSIVE tank and still crank out pretty good dps. I am at work and don't have the exact numbers, but as I recall, i can get about 700 dps passive omni-tank, over 100,000 EHP, 15,000 Buffer and still get about 520 dps w/drones and heavy launchers. For guristas i can get about 2600 dps passive tank and still do rather good dps. Everybody thinks the sleiper is the ****e, but I fly both and I think my nighthawk could easily kick the crap out of a sleipner or any command ship for that matter. You can always fit it for more dps, less tank, more tank less dps.. with the nighhawk you have a lot of options. it's just spensive.

Drake would have to be the best, in my opinion. Some reasons:
Can tank up to 950 DPS with moderate skills and T2 modules.
Cost effective
Can throw HAMS/MWD/TACKLE and nail HACS/CRUISERS/FRIGS/BATTLESHIPS (If you pick your battles correctly)
I have solo'd class 3 Wormholes in a Drake. It works about 70% of the time, sometimes the Wormhole space bonus gimp you too much.
Just remember, when it comes to solo pve / pvp , you are limited in effectiveness in both areas in a single ship.

Edited by: Joachim Kato on 27/05/2009 00:16:16 BTW i just started the sleepers in my nighthawk the other day. I usually plex solo with it so I thought I'd give the sleeper systems a run. So far I've only come across class 2 and 3 systems and I have been able to solo them pretty easy. I spent 1 hour in a class 3 with my NH, just did 3 anomalys and off those 3 I made 150mil. There was still a ton more to do, but had to go to work. I can't think of another ships that would omni tank as good as the NH and still get great dps. Not to mention missles are ideal for the sleepers.
