So I'm looking to get a Drone Navigation Computer I, but it doesn't say how much of an increase it gives to drones' MWD speed. AND I don't even know wth MWD speed is. Can someone please enlighten me?

The MWD drive speed of a Hobgoblin is 4200m/s I think.
A Drone navigation link will give a 25% increase in speed.
4200 * 1.25 = 5250m/s ------------------------------------- Read my bio ingame for tips on how to live and not be called nasty names by me. |

so...does the MWD speed for a drone only apply when my own ship uses the microwarp drive?

Drones are equipped with a notional MWD that they use until they get into orbit range of their target. What propulsion mod, if any, you have on your own ship is irrelevant.

ooo, so the MWD speed for drones is their speed from my ship to their target?

Yes.
But what I don't know is whether or not the drone navigation computer also affects the orbit speed of drones.

Spaceball One is capable of traveling at four different speeds: sub-light speed, light speed, ridiculous speed, and ludicrous speed. When going into ludicrous speed all crew members must use a seat belt for their own safety. Ludicrous speed results in the ship leaving a trail of plaid, parodying the "warp trail" seen in the first few Star Trek films.

The MWD speed for drones is their speed from THEIR CURRENT LOCATION to their intended target.

Equate if you will drone MWD speed to the velocity of a missile.

A drone will use its MWD any time it has an "urgent" command until it has reached its listed activation range. At activation range, it cuts MWD and uses orbit speed.
The Drone Navigation skill and the Drone Navigation Computer I module affect the MWD speed of your drones. It does not affect the orbit speed of your drones. At one time, it did, causing drones to become less accurate. Some people report this still occurs. They are incorrect. Occasionally, drones will orbit at MWD speed... this is a seperate bug unrelated to the skill or module.
For PvE, these allow for (slightly) swifter killing of rats for drone boats.
For PvP, these increase the chance that a drone boat can participate in gang warfare, and are valuable for making drones more able to handle interceptors.
Please note, these nor any other drone mod show up on the drone's show info, regardless of where or when the drone's info is taken.

However EFT will calculate the effects of mods and of your skills on drones by using show info the drones in your dronebay on eft.
