Edited by: Koal on 27/05/2009 18:54:13 Heya, returned from a few year's absence, and back then it was still somewhat of a limited exposure experience. I don't think they had Drakes back then and was flying a Ferox in Level 3's to my sheer disappointment. Got the Apocrypha spam email reecently and thought I'd recheck the game. Very fun experience so far...in my Drake. :)
Have been reading forums and discovered people can invade one's mission to loot it. So this has me wondering a couple things.
a) if I right click in space and warp to mission, is that what people call "dead space" and can invaders find me there and take my loot/salvage?
b) if I right click in space and warp to a mission gate, after the gate activates and warps me to another area, can invaders find me there and take my loot/salvage?
c) does this happen often?
d) how do I counter it? Especially when aggro'd with pve ships...
I have absolutely no desire to pvp (i'm not afraid of it after spending 5years in DAoC, just tired of all the smack) at this time and want an advanced MMO like this, but don't want to deal with the threats of being looted and attacked all the time. I love questing/missioning and thought this would be an ideal game for me. Ya ya, I know about being called a carebear and like I give a ****.
Any help would be great, many thanks in advance.

a) yes b) yes c) in mission hubs and in lowsec d) you don't - leave the mission and come back later.

Highsec systems with very good agents like Dodixie for example (Best L4 fed navy agent). --- Sol: A microwarp drive? In a battleship? Are you insane? They arenĘt built for this! Clear Skies - The Movie |

Dodixie for sure but I probe people out in Gulfonodi and steal their stuff. One way to counter it is to either shoot your wrecks or ignore the ninja salvagers. If someone warps into your mission just start blitzing it. ---------- This post brought to you by the worst PVP'er in Eve |

It doesnt happen nearly as often as it looks if you were just reading the forums. For instance last night I spent probably close to 2 hours clearing gurista extravaganza out of Motsu (the biggest mission hub in game? if not its close). I took that long simply because I kept going afk and watching basketball.
I looted/salvaged the whole thing without any problems. Nobody came to try to steal anything.
Also they can salvage your wrecks without any penalties, but when they do that the actual loot stays behind for you. If they're brave (and I assume most ninjasalvagers are) they'll loot your cans too, that gives you an aggression timer on them (you can freely attack them without concord intervention). However it's more of a trap for you than a punishment for them, as by attacking them you give them an aggression timer back on you, so most just come out in their pvp ship and blow your mission ship up. And I believe if you blow up their ship, they get kill rights on you and can come back days later to blow up your mission ship.

Or just warp out of the mission and let the intruder deal with the mission spawns. Works quite well against frigates.

If they are blinky red to you and you blow them up, noone gets kill rights.
The only way you get kill rights is if they attack you first, they blow you up, and you do not shoot back (not even with ECM or target painters).

The threat is always there, the actual looting is not.
In the meantime, you might want to explore the mini-game knows as "Probing" - there's a helpful page on it over in the Wiki. Once you can learn how they can hunt you down, you'll start to appreciate the slim chances that they'll actually appear in your mission space.
Stop thinking about the blinky red guy as a nuisance to be dealth with, start thinking of them as the langoliers come to clean up the mess that you've left behind, and you can get back to enjoying your mission-running.

a) happens a lot, unless you run away and dock up for 15 mins and wait out the aggression timer.
b) his corp mates can come and repair him, but they can't shoot at you, until you shoot at them first.

Just keep 1 battlecruiser alive while salvaging.
The invaders are usually in small cheap ships, so when they jump in, you jump out and they get killed by the bc. --------------------------------------------------- THE BIG BANG: First there was nothing, Then it exploded. |

Great and helpful information everyone. I made the choice to play a pvp-centric game so I'll get used to it I guess. Very good tips on everything from shooting loot, to blitzing it, leaving one baddie around, or just leaving to come back later. Was also reading if I tractor beam the stuff just before they get there that usually annoys them too! :)
Thanks for confirming that I can indeed be dropped in on at any time and I'll check that probing section out, as I have wanted to get into probing for stuff along with the archaeological side of the game for a while. Sekretz are fun. :)
On a positive note, I just found out my gf loves to loot and salvage my wrecks, she kicks me out of the computer chair when I am done killing lol (and she used to complain about me gaming), so that got us into making her a character on a trial account, and she loved that... Soooo now I am thinking she can come along on missions to do the looting and salv, and was wondering what would be a good choice as a second ship in pve missions. Was thinking somewhat of a support ship like EW specialization, but with enough cargo space to grab everything...what would be a good missioning ship/progression for this? Think EW is good?
Thanks kindly again.

EW is good in PvP, not so much in PvE. The reason is that there are too many rats in mission. Crippling 3-4 rats with EW doesn't do much, as there are still 10+ more to deal with. The exception is Target Painting: however, there the challange is to coordinate which target you are going for.
Another idea might be logistics: you could then drop most of your tank in favor of more gank and better speed. Depending on what you fly, the logistics ship could also provide tracking support.
The popular choice with mission is to bring more damage. Personally I dual box using characters in a Nighthalk (tank / frigate+cruiser gank) and Paladin (heavy gank). However, you are a ways off from that kind of setup if you just created her account. Still, there are lots of ships that she could fly to help deal damage while you tank most of the rats.

Let her be a dedicated frig killer. You know ho damn annoying those rat frigs are.
So dessie or some such. You take aggro, she comes in and wipes out the frigs that are shooting you.
