In which way will you be informed when your research agent strikes gold and forks over a shiny Bpo..
Will he inform me by mail, or will he tell me in person when I go see him about the daily, endless trouble he's getting himself into?

Beware - if you have not been visiting your agent and he is not sending you a daily note about his needs you will not get to hear about any breakthough he has. once a bpo is offered you get a week to accept his offer, so to be safe you need to visit your agent at least once a week
