Skills are not going to be queued, nor are they going to be selectable by web, it will not be possible to train two skills on 1 character for an account upgrade, nor will it be possible to train 2 skills on 1 account. All these things have been discussed long ago and rejected. The skill system is in place for a variety of reasons, ranging from immersion to exploitability prevention.
In short, any changes to the skill system that simplify training to the point that the game trains everything for you, or allows you to train more than 1 skill at a time are not going to happen.
That is a quote from Kieron, an EVE community manager. He said that no changes like a skill queue will be implemented. I assume this goes for out of game skill selection as well.
(If it is at all possible, is there any chance this could be stickied? It would get rid of the skill queue topics. If this is not supposed to be posted on this board, delete it please, mods.) ---------------------- Drair Malone

This really would make a nice sticky. Seems like the subject comes up about once a week.
"The long and short of it is that this game, or any game, is either going to be a kindergarten where it's safe and cuddly and secure and you can play with plush tigers, or it will be a harsh place, harsh but interesting and interesting because harsh, where you must take risks to succeed and so must everyone, since victory is tasteless without danger." - Raivn Akhama

Just the other day I was halfway to my driveway when I realized that the skill I left training in Eve was only minutes from completion. So I had to walk all the way back in and wait while my computer booted up just so I could change the active skill being trained in Eve. A skill queue system would've saved me from that five minute inconvenience. But even with that being said, I can definitely see why it's not in the game. There would be a large amount of AFK accounts (I'd probably make one) that would just sit in stations for months training to be uber characters. I definitely wouldn't want such a skillful character to be created simply because someone threw $60 at a long term subscription and setup a smart queue tree for their skills. I'd recommend making a one post thread from a Dev stating a few reasons why skill queueing won't be implemented and then sticky and lock it. Though I bet we'll still have the occasional thread about it starting up once/month at least.

Skill queuing, nah. But I would like to be able to manage them online. I'm not always near my gaming machine, and it isn't always up and running. ____________ Sex / Rank 9 / SP: 1280 of 2304000

Edited by: Steppa on 13/09/2004 14:31:56 Look, all I want is a skill that I'm ALREADY training to KEEP ON training if I reach the level I'm currently on. In other words, if I'm training Drone Interfacing III and it finishes without any further input from me, it should immediately start training Drone Interfacing IV unless I change it. This does not go against anything CCP has stated and it allows you to not live your RL by a clock in a game.
As far as not being able to log in remotely and manipulate skills, I can see why they would do that. They have a vested interest in showing the highest average number of people logged into Eve. I'm sure this impacts not only their bottom line in some way, but I'm sure they have reports that include such data to the non-gaming suits that run the place over there.

Why? You really do that? Hmmm, strange, I usually train skills depending on my RL necessities, not the contrary.
Oh, come on, don't tell me you really leave late for a hot date just because a skill is about to complete training! I will never believe that.

While I think Steppa's suggestion of skill training continuance is a good one (unless you just finished lvl 5 that is) I see no reason in the world at freaking all, why... I cant queue up a second skill that will start if the primary one is completed.
This does NOT give any advantage at all in any way to anyone. It does not break any kind of rules or TOS in any way. I too have had a stiuation where I was at work when a skill finished and I (since there is no way to start or stop skills via the web) missed out on 10 or so hours of training time.
This may seem petty but when you work 11 to 12 hours a day the few hours you get to spend on eve, it's more important to actually be able to play rather than to try to calculate out completion times of skills...
with a queueing system I could say train Large Energy turrets to lvl 5 and then queue up Ammar BS 5 as a secondary to start after the first one is done.
I think the Devs need to realize this and help us out a bit in this regard IMHO.

I consider the time spent calculating when training will finish as part of the fun. But then again, maybe it's just me.
When you live your real life by the clock of a computer game... it's not the computer game that has problems...

I too have missed hour and hours of training time, either cause i was not able to log in or I was too lazy to switch one on.
I really don't see loosing a few hours or days even as the end of the world. Heck my mate looses 3 to 4 days if i don't check his account cause he can't log in reguarly. (i just found that out tho and am helping him out now )
Why bother? its a game, its for fun, and there is no queue commin whatsoever, ever!!!
So your char stops training, well if this game was experience point based you needed to log in to train up anyways, so i just see this system as a plus as it EVEN trains while i am offline. I only need to log in to start training and heck lets face it.
Train some low levels when you have time (saturdays for example) and when the long streak offline starts (either a workweek or vacation) train the lvl 5's those will go on for days .. even when you are not logged in .. quite a system in my opinion.
The way Eve works is that you need to set a path of skills you would like (hey a queue ) you buy them, anticipate their uses, get the modules and ships and train all through playing and doing whatever you like.
The only piece of advice i can give to you is: "don't let it eat you" It is not the end of the world having missed out on a few hours / days of training.
Just have fun, enjoy the game even with your skills 10 hours back on that "optimal guy" and believe you me i know one that sets his alarm to change skills ..
3 months further he has a battleship and I have 4 Implants, now even with my occasional 'missed hours' I am gaining up to him in Skillpoints and by now may even have passed him ..
So just have fun and stop getting upset about things you can't change anyway
Hope it helps

if i know i cant get on for a few days i just set a lvl 4 skill training. one that i wouldnt mind having lvl 5 but dont really wanna lose other skill time on. atm i just set one of the learning skills going if i know i cant get on. or if i am going to have a skill finished midway thru my sleep, i just set a longer one going. its a game, i am NOT getting up in the midlle of the night to set a damned skill.
no skill queue is needed, just THINK about what you are training. a few hours lost training isnt the end of the world, considering most long term players will play for well over a year! -------------------------------------------

I totally agree with the skill being trained to CONTINUE training until its either stopped are completes at Level 5. This would avoid me having to feel as if I HAVE to manage my game all the time. This is a game and so it should be fun not constantly watching the clock to see when the next skill finnishes.
Also, It is possible for someone to create a second account and train that account for 1 year and have a great character without ever leaving the station and fighting in a battle or using a mining laser. I am not sure that sound logical to me.
I would like to see a system that is a hybrid of the skills training from other MMOGS with the time element of Eve.
EXAMPLE: 1. Have your gun skill training time cut a few seconds each time you use your guns in battle. 2. Have your Cruiser skill time cut each time you are flying a Frigate if you do not have the cruiser skill or cruiser if you do. 3. Get navigation time cut when each time you make jumps or navigate to a point in space.
The logic is that people who play each night SHOULD gain a reward in skills as oppossed to the one who loggs in changes skills and then loggs out.
I have recently begun to play another MMOG and realize now that it is So much more rewarding to see you gaining skills based on accomplishing a mission or performing an action rather than sitting in a station watching a clock tick down.
Shiva is going to be a decision point for me... "Its all fun and games til somebody gets Podded" |

Part of the fun of this game is just that: you HAVE to manage your game all the time, like with every other game. I don't understand how people get to want always more. You say further on that you have played other MMOGs. You should be happy you have the chance of learning stuff while you're offline. But no, you people have this, take it for granted and go beyond.

I don't understand why a skill you don't have should increase while you're riding some other kind of ship. It would be like have dragon riding increase when you're riding a horse... doesn't make much sense to me.

true, but one thing I like about this game is that Powergamers aren't so much advantaged, and you can grow even if you don't have a lot of time to play.

Shalon,
What my original thought was was that someone who had just obtained the required skills to learn say Cruiser Level 1 even though they are Training Cruiser Level 1 they Cannot fly a Cruiser yet so I was suggesting that they get points to reduce training time by flying a frigate to reduce the training time of the Cruiser skill level 1.
After hearing someone else explain it to me however It was a Terrible Idea.
I would still support flying a cruiser would contribute to reducing the Cruiser Skill training time.
