Edited by: comrade captain on 30/05/2009 11:33:18 use an invul (faction) and 1 of each type specific hardener eg if fighting serpentis 1 kin 1 therm, swap one of the heat sinks for a republic fleet or domination tracking enhancer those are the only changes i would make, bear in mind to kill frigs and cruisers at distance as when they get close you wont hit them like you always hit with missiles.

Why the invul field?
If i fight Sansha id usually go for 2 EM 1 thermal, but i should go like 1 Invul 1 EM 1 thermal then? doesent the first option give more resists?

No real need for a x-large booster, on a nightmare its impossible to get working too well.
Simply use a Pith A-type Large booster, 1 of each hardener 2 boost amps and a cap booster.
No need to perma run, the nightmare is designed for a massive dps gank and dead ships cant shoot.
4 tachs, 3 heat sinks, 2 tracking enchancers. Put CCC in the rigs and you are set. ------------------------------------- Read my bio ingame for tips on how to live and not be called nasty names by me. |

its just the way i roll it gives bonuses to both so i use 1 cal navy invul and then 1 of each primary type, i find it gives a better balance to both, for example if you use 2 em 1 thermal you may have a good em resist in the 80s but the thermal resist may well fall in the 60s or 70s bracket, i like to get both in the 80s where possible.
Sanshas maybe use 2 em 1 therm because the shield has 0 resists naturally but for anything else i use 1 invul and 1 of each specific.

i use n xl booster, i cant comment on a large booster but i am not 100% confident using a 1 bill isk ship with a large booster id rather be safe than sorry so ive always used xl and it still permaruns with my setup.

Wasting two medslots on cap rechargers is kinda meh. You really do not want to permatank in a Nightmare anyway. Downgrading to a pith large booster (I used a B-type on my 'mare) and replacing the CRs with gank assist mods (tracking comps, or a sensor booster, the latter is very handy when you kill smallish stuff much faster than you can lock it) would be a good idea unless you absolutely have to permatank. More often than not though I did not need my shield booster at all. Dunno if you have them, but crystal implants are also kinda mandatory.
And yes, doing Amarr missions will yield a lot better reults in a 'mare than doing Crapdari ones.
And please learn about the subtle difference between 'to' and 'too', the way you use it wrongly with a vengeance among otherwise decent english makes you look a bit uneducated. And if you are reading this, you have arrived at the signature without noticing...

Firstly, iam uneducated, havent spent more then 9 years in school.
Secondly, i want to fit this kind of tank because of my shield tanking skills isnt the best atm, but im working on it. Once my Gunnery skills gets better id consider more gank, but atm its better with being on the safer side.

I've ran some numbers on the DPS curve, 4 heat sinks with 1 TE and a TC work out best. You can swap the TC out and replace it with an SBA if you want to feel safer. NM tank is gank...no need for complex XLSB since you almost never use it anyway.

Meh...NM puts out so much DPS that Gurista shields do not matter for very long. I've ran an occasional mission against Guristas while in Amarr space...BCs still die in 1 volley. HACs still suck, but they suck in all missions. BSes go down quick...sure, slower than Amarr or Gallente, but once you get through the shield...there's nothing left.

A nightmare will work in the short term, but you should train towards a golem or paladin.

Sink your isk into a crystal set if you're primary sorce of income is missions because a nightmare with those can handle the ae bonus room with a simply tii booster. If you truly were a regular mission runner you'd know t2 booster + crystals > pimp booster/amp + no crystals. People wont suicide/probe you for implants they can't make isk from, they will gank/probe for pimpy booster + amp.
I'm assuming you simply omitted then, but in case add 3 ccc too.
Now the this comes down to skill (and cheap implants) but you can in fact drop the second recharge there and fit an ab if you remove the te and fit another cap mod in the lows. If your skills arnt great, and you can't get enough cap out of it even with 5% cap implants, then don't, but eventually you'll reach the point where you're cleaning rooms much faster than it take you to reach the next gate and you'll want one
Really, get crystals, without the booster/amp you're ships not worth attacking plus they won't explode if something (lag?) happens and are transferable to any other ship you may get in future, golems for example. -------------------------

/this. A top skilled nightmare rightly melts all races ships regardless of resists. Only a top skilled golem with faction torps can beat that alas the torps poor range means that the nightmare is already halfway through the second room whilst the golem is still chugging from target to target in the first.
Bottom line: If your a solo mission runner and you want to burn through missions as fast as possible then the nightmare is your mission ship of choice. If you want to salvage your missions as you go then the paladin/golem is the boat for you.

Nightmare is on par with the paladin and golem when you ignore the tractor beam bonuses but it is far better for pvp than the golem or paladin.
