If CCP released a card/boad/minatures game based on flying a spaceship against others, and building individual skills and wealth, would you play it?
I once read somewhere that all video games can be converted to card games; and this is commonly done by game designers to 'test' their game mechanisms.
It's a MMO/battle game, not a strategy game I know CCP already has a card game based on corporation level strategy, but that doesn't float my dread in the least. EvE is about flying spaceships, and developing individual skills and ship fits. It's a space MMO, not a strategy game like RISK.
The best format? Would a non-computer EvE game it be best in cardgame/boardgame/pen+paper MMO/tabletop game?
EVE Miniatures anyone? Cardgames seem most profitable for companies (booster packs etc), but Warhammer has done well from their 40K miniatures and I for one would paint and play with EvE spaceships.
I would love to see something like this.
Fan-Made Version PS: Would anyone on these forums be interested in co-designing a 'fan-made' game as outlined above for fun?

I want a web based RISK version of EVE to mess around with at work.

As you mentioned, CCP has already tried to release a card game, and it flopped. I, for one, was quite disappointed, because I rather liked the game. I think it just came down to no one really had local people to play with. I think it would've done much better if they implemented something similar to Magic Online instead.

I'm sure there are people on these forums who could do this. Would be very cool.

Nice idea. Maybe make the on-line card game free with an EvE subscription to raise awareness of the game?

In case people have missed it, and I wouldn't be surprised if they have, there is actually an EVE board game.

True - we already have STRATEGY card games and boardgames.
But EvE is NOT a strategy game like Command & Conquer, Age of Empires etc. The games already out are simply games built within EvE uinverse but not similar in style to EvE itself.
It is a MMORPG. Some characteristics of a RPG (or as relates to EvE are:)
You control (1) main character who flies a variety of customisable ships; or maybe a small squad of up to 4 or so The character and ships can be upgraded with skills and weapons You collect 'stuff' i.e. loot, shinier ships, bigger pew pew guns There are NPCs to fight as well as human opponents
I don't really see EvE as a big-scale fleet game or strategy game cos that is not really what EvE is about.
M
PS: Although a miniatures game based on EvE might be OK.... you could recreate small gang fights from EvE itself...

lolz, CnC and the likes are not strategy games. Real strategy games have gone the way of the dinosaur. Now all thats left are games wheres its about who can gather resources faster and pump out units even faster.
theres no way to get a decent but fast paced game going. the closest ccg type game would be similar to "young jedi" which was a serious flop and completely mindless.
a table top game with minis, similar to 40k and Battletech are still going to fall under "strategy" which you already said you don't want.
you guys really need to refine your idea before even thinking of asking people to consider helping you with it....whatever it is you are thinking of. unless you are thinking along the lines of smashing hotwheels together to see who knocks who's car back..or something similarly fast and mindless.

yah and you could have games where the opponent gets to drop 6 decks of cards onto your ship to simulate a 500man gate camp!
Winner!

Both. I am deliberately generalising so if someone has a brainwave, go for it. There are games design websites for minatures games and something like Full Thrust/Battlefleet Gothic perhaps could be modified.(However - where would the 'cool miniatures' themselves come from?) I believe there are MMO card games out there that could be adapted to EvE but I am not too sure of the mechanics (although I am sure many here would.)
I'm just trying to look for interesting ideas.

I'd be happy to work with anyone else who wants to do this, i work for a graphic design company so you're in luck and know a little about web design, plus i'll have a lot of time on my hands soon

Slightly OT but I want Airfix type models of EVE ships, 1:72 scale. That is all, carry on.

Sounds cool. Contact me in-game.
Sadly I have far less skills than you; I know a fair bit about minatures games, a small amount about card games and 0 skills in web pages/electronics/programming.
I'm happy to brainstorm with anyone on any of the above (card game/board game/web-game) that keeps EvE as a RPG rather than a strategy card/board game like we currently have. Complexity is up to you...

Honestly, I've given some real thought to putting together some kind of deal for GURPS involving EVE. There have been whispers of a pen and paper, and that would make sense with White Wolf and all, but I am getting tired of waiting.

I would buy an Eve miniature game like the Axis and Allies series. A&A is not as expensive the Warhammer games. The starter kit includes 18 miniatures and terrain maps. Then you can buy booster packs for more miniatures.
The big models are nice but I cant afford a overglorified paper weight. I'd actually like something I can use.

As a avid wargammer i completely disagree with that statement. tactical/operational wargames are still being produced and played. Myself i got 4 diffrent PBEM games running at the moment. Most of these games are made by small independent companies, like Matrixgames , HPS and several others. There are even several boardgames producers that make the old fashion counter and dice type of wargames. One company that comes to my mind is GMT games..and i m not going to mention my huge 15mm miniature napoleonics collection .... .Overall EVE lends itself well for a cardgame or boardgame, only there isn't a public for it.

I would love a miniatures game like Battle Fleet Gothic. To be able to build and paint some Eve ships would be the highlight of my miniatures hobby. I'd say go from frigate to battleships for the standard line, then introduce some of the capitals in the way that Forgeworld does for Games Workshop.
White Wolf, are you listening?! And don't make them cheapo plastic models, I want detailed plastic or metal minis!! ------
Originally by: Swalesey Ok that makes moe sense. op wans corp where he can whack himself in the balls whilst swinging his tackle to some funkeh music. It's so obvious now you say it out loud

Miniatures a la Battlefleet Gothic would be great! Sadly I agree it is somewhat of a niche market. But we do have lots of EvE subscribers who would probably buy them to display if not to play with....
I think EvE is more a RPG; lending itself to small scale ship combat of 4-8 ships per side maximum; your 'hero' capsuleer ships could have better stats that can improve. This could be boardgame or minis; I'd prefer metal minis.
I can also see a RPG card game (not a strategy alliance-level game) working.
As EvE is based on percentages (i.e. 55% resists etc, 10% bonuses) a d10, d20 or d100 would allow a fairly straight-forward conversion to non-digital game. It'd need to be simplified a lot though.

If anyone here is interested in a Space Ship themed miniatures game then I highly suggest Battlefleet Gothic.
It's one of the most well designed and enjoyable miniatures games I've ever played AND its very cheap compared to a lot of miniatures games that require large investments to get started. |

Full Thrust has cheaper minis. BFG = GW = evil empire that is the Microsoft of wargames.
Would it be worth adapting BFG/FT rules to universe of EvE (albeit without the minis). That seems do-able. |
