Its okay for a frigate with 1500m, for a cruiser i think 2500 or 3000 would be better. And a battleship should have 4-5k range.
Or maybe add a tractor beam module, or skill that increase loot range, or just up the range. It is very annoying and so totally not fun to collect a large spawn in anything but a mwd frig.
Whatcha think?

I don't think thats the best idea ever. For one thing loot thieves would be able to swipe everything after a battle without having to get off there nasty vulture-like arses.
Having a default distance for ship class just doesn't make sense although possibly some sort of tractor beam skill would work, but again you wouldn't expect something like that to be quicker than simply flying to the can yourself.

Disagree, we just need loot drones.

Salvage drones, so much wanted, but the code, there is no code done for em, do you think CCP will give it to us? Nahhhh, but higher range for bigger ships, That would be nice and easily doable!

Edited by: Jarmon Karlentis on 11/09/2004 16:32:44 How about if you deploy a salvage drone, it extends the range depending on your salvage drone skill. You could have ranges of 3, 4.5, 6, 7.5, 9 for each skill level in handling salvage drones. Minimal coding effort, and requires some effort to get there.

What about a Large Robotic Arm that extends itself from your ship and grabs the loot? It could be made to be 30km and it fits in a high slot

This is one of the reasons I like the current pick-up range. However, I read a suggestion on the same topic 2-3 months ago, where someone proposed that you up the wiew range to i.e 100kms, so you can go through the loot from afar, and decide for yourself if you want to go pick it up. One of the better ideas i've heard in a long time.
Takes away the fly 53kms to pick up a 15% expander, and is hard, nigh impossible, to make any exploits with.

I have another idea that would help! This one is way way better.
Make it possible to add waypoints on loot cans. I place a waypoint on each of the cans(lets say there's 5) and then my ship, guided by autopilot will fly around looting them all automatically. Then i can just go afk reading forums or checking my mail or just chatting with my corp.
Think that would be to hard to code? Imho the easiest implementation is increasing range for big and slow ships, either by a skill or just by shiptype.

If you don't like having to fly far to get the loot then you can do either of two things:
1) Bookmark the container you want and warp out, warp to the container (most ppl only care about the bs loot and leave the other loot to cargo frigs to pick up)
2) Go hardcore and warp in at 15km; approach the rat/s the whole time and shoot the living /$&+ out of them :) Ever tried a 1mil spawn using a armor tanked scorp with torps, an arma with 7x mega pulse w/ multifreqs or a dom/mega w/ blasters and drones? ^^ |

Nah that won't happen. Since if yur hunting your prob in >0.4 anyways, not to mention that if they are going to start picking up your loot they would have it be in either a fast frig or cruiser. Killing them would be easy though not nice to your sec status.
Signed, we need somthing to get loot cans faster. Drones, some sorrta mod, skills, whatever. Even BM'ing the can and warping back an forth takes forever. I'd rather go fight rats rather then pick up cans, esp to find worthless loot. And not to mention elite NPC frigs often drop great loot, they honestly can be 50% of my loot sales depending on my luck
